Antioch Woman Assaulted on Nightly Walk

by ECT

A 47-year-old Antioch woman was on her nightly walk on December 16 where she was assaulted by an unknown male.

The incident occurred around 7:30 pm where she was walking on Longview Drive near the south side of Save Mart where a male emerged from the bushes. The subject struck her in the face causing her to fall to the ground.

He then went through her pockets and fled the scene on foot.

She was able to recover and walk home where she called Antioch Police. She did not get a good look at the suspect and could provide little information about the incident. She suffered some minor swelling on her cheek but refused medical attention.

An extensive area check was completed but the suspect was not located.

Do you not think it’s time to clean up Antioch yet. I hike all the trails in and around antioch. The section this lady was attacked is a haven for the homeless in the area. City Hall knows this as well as the Antioch Police Department. Yet still all these people are allowed to squat there. And even worse look AR A street and Bryan ave! Absolutely ridiculous. My sister lives on Bryan Ave in the house I grew up in. A high number of people have left their homes because of how terrible the homeless situation has become there. As soon as a house is empty all the homeless in the area break into the houses and destroy and steal everything inside including the plumbing. So for them to say that they cannot find the individual that harmless lady just pisses me off. They don’t really have to look too far. This city absolutely sucks now not the town I grew up in.

Unfortunately we need surveillance cameras everywhere now……criminals know no boundaries.

I like the idea of cameras too, but it’s even wiser not to walk alone in the dark. Men are victimized more often than women, but women and children are usually more vulnerable. Take your “daily” walk before it gets dark. Wise up, or at least take a dog with you, and leave “desirable things worth stealing” at home. I hope they catch the guy.

We can’t even have any cheap “NO LITTERING” signs in our city (the Chief said the citizens are supposed to know not to litter). Displaying monetary consequences if you do litter is needed! The camera idea was readily dismissed by the Chief. We were told it was a “City Council item”. In other words, this city ignores its citizens’ ideas. This city’s law enforcement will continue to be REACTIVE instead of PROACTIVE.

Called APD to tell them that somebody was trying to break into My daughter’s house. And my 18 yr granddaughter was at home alone ,she was locked in her mom’s room, I drove as fast as I possibly could to the house , the police was called I got there still no police. They never showed up. They were told it was an emergency, no police I just called them and cancelled.

I suggEsted this too. Done cameras on street lights. It can be done.

Where did Antioch go wrong??????? Dec 21, 2015 - 8:38 pm

You citizens need to put your frustration towards the city and not the police department. Those officers are busting their ass to respond to calls. S. Lopez, I don’t believe your details are exactly true and correct. I know for a fact that if you call and say somebody is breaking into the house and there are occupants, APD is going to respond with lights and sirens. Unless, they are all on a life and death call and if this is true dispatch will tell you of the delay. Cameras are a high cost and there are several issues to overcome before just putting Cameras up. Antioch will never be a proactive city. Maybe back in the 80s like when they shut down the downtown cruise.

This town is a joke- I grew up here watched it deteriorate and I’m not leaving – I was here first the more of these incidents I hear about the more guns I buy. APD cites and releases people in possession of drugs like herion and meth. Let criminals stalk the streets and attack people- would these homeless and thugs be walking through a neighborhood in San Ramon?? Hell no. WHY doesn’t APD stop and actually arrest every suspicious person walking around and in bucket cars with bad tags and let Martinez (County) jail sort it out. Maybe if the County jail gets so full of arrests from Antioch they’ll come help prevent crime and send the message that Antioch isn’t a wild west free for all on innocent citizens. Shameful state of affairs and embarrassed to say I’m from and still live in Antioch.
