Updated Reckless Driver Hops Curb, Strikes Three Vehicles in Antioch

by ECT

Just after 10:00 am Tuesday, an Antioch Police officers observed a vehicle driving recklessly down Country Hills Drive in the City of Antioch while on another service call when a short time later the vehicle crashed into a driveway.

The incident occurred at 10:10 am at Country Hills and Montara Drive where the driver who crashed was reportedly unconscious after the crash before waking up. The driver was placed in custody and in cuffs before being taken to a local hospital by AMR and a firefighter from Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

Three vehicles in two driveways sustained damage from the crash along with a mailbox that was taken out.

Although the call was originally reported as the end of a police pursuit, officers on scene confirmed the driver saw the officer on another call and then crashed before a pursuit could even occur.

It was also stated about an hour prior to this crash, police had pulled over the driver who was on a cell phone.

Police are expected to release more information later in the day as it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a roll in the crash. No other injuries were reported.

UPDATE

On the listed date and time, a uniformed Antioch PD Officer in a fully marked Antioch Patrol Unit driving north on Deer Valley Road observed a driver (Joshua Buckham, 33), travelling southbound on Deer Valley Road approaching Country Hills Road, commit various traffic violations, including striking the median.

The Ofc made a U-turn at the next intersection to attempt to get behind Bickham and conduct a traffic enforcement stop. As the Officer made the U-turn, for unknown reasons, Bickham ran the light he was stopped at and turned down Country Hills Drive while speeding away at an estimated speed in excess of 75MPH.

The Officer attempted to catch up to Bickham, but due to his speed, did not pursue. A short distance away, the Officer found Bickham after he had lost control of his vehicle near Montara Drive.

Bickham crossed over into oncoming lanes and collided with several parked cars in the driveways of two residences. Bickham was the only occupant of the vehicle and was found unconscious in the vehicle when Officer’s checked on him. He quickly regained consciousness and began to fight with Officers as they were attempting to help him. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol and transported to John Muir Hospital as a precaution.

He suffered no injures as result of being arrested. Luckily, no Officers, pedestrians or other motorists were injured as result of this incident. The investigation is ongoing and will be forwarded to the CCC District Attorney for review once completed. This preliminary information is made available by the Investigations Division.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Antioch Police Department non-emergency line at (925)778-2441. You may also text-a-tip to 274637 (CRIMES) using the key word ANTIOCH.

Wanna get away……..? Very glad to hear this fine upstanding citizen and driving instructor only caused property damage and didn’t hurt anyone. I’m sure he’ll be out and on the road soon enough though…..

“Just after 10:00 am Tuesday, Antioch Police officers observed a vehicle driving recklessly down Country Hills Drive”
Unfortunately, that’s what the APD does best, observe crime. Luckily the idiot crashed or he would’ve been free to drive like a douche canoe all day. Too bad APD isn’t proactively trying to stop crime. There’s still tons of vehicles driving with dealer plates and even more reckless drivers. Everyone knows crime is legal in good old Antioch.

Harry – you left out the important part “while on another service call”

It’s all of Demafornia Harry. Not just Antioch.

So glad that no injuries to children, pets, bystanders occurred. It really is a miracle. The property damage is bad enough, but at least that can be fixed.

Who will pay for this damage?

Damaged property is OK? Didn’t the owners take a chance driving to work, avoiding getting hit by reckless idiot drivers, put their lives on the line only to have what they worked for and paid for be crashed into by a cretin? Property damage is as bad as suffering pain from being hit.

You take your life in your own hands, ONIWY, when you venture out to go to work to earn money for those possessions. Some of those possessions can help you lead a healthy life or if one is handicapped, they are a lifeline themselves! Ever think of that?

Nobody’s saying that what this driver has done is “OK.” And, also, it’s pretty hard to believe that anyone thinks property damage is every bit as bad as suffering loss of life or limb, spending weeks or more in a hospital, being unable to work, etc. He should certainly be held accountable. Given what we know of his actions, it’s unrealistic to expect much of him. Hopefully, the other vehicles will have been insured. It’s wonderful that all of us were spared from much more injury that he could have caused. Being thankful is seldom a stupid move.

Oh yeah! Watch the insurance costs go up! Even if it’s not the car owner fault. I agree with Sylvana! The acquired property was gotten through hard work and taking chances with one’s life driving to that job. Many times, just escaping with your life intact. Those possessions didn’t just fall into one’s lap. We work for possessions to make our life easier.

My God! All people wanna do is bicker. Bicker about police, bicker about eachothers comments. Even bicker about the other wing when it’s on the same bird as you. If you want to do something about it, I have many ideas. Let’s get together and stand up or soon, when it’s escalated, it’ll be much harder. These people are risking the lives of your children and if you don’t stand against it, you shouldn’t speak of it. To allow it is to promote it. If we unite, we can overcome. If we are divided, we stand no chance. The only life worth living is a life worth dying for. One a these punks gonna get hurt one day.

We have the most broken DMV system… you don’t need a license to buy, register, insure a vehicle. You can buy the car take your $ and paperwork to DMV get it registered and then you ccan get it insured or not… and drive it. I am higly offended by this! I have always had a current license, insurance and registration. Everything paid legally. There are insuance agents who will insure your car without a license. So wrong!!!
