by ECT

At 4:22 pm Monday, four people were injured after a vehicle crashed into the front of the Safeway grocery store on Deer Valley Road.

The call initially came in as a vehicle into the Safeway store, however, upon arrival of firefighters, they stated a vehicle was not in the building. Upon further investigation, they located a vehicle with heavy damage to its rear and located four people suffering from injuries.

Antioch SafewayFirefighters initially requested four total ambulances where patients suffered from minor to moderate injuries. The incident also closed one end of the store entry and exit to be closed.

According to police on scene, it appears the elderly driver confused the accelerator from the brake while in reverse.

Per witnesses, two bystanders were able to pull the women from the vehicle before she could drive again as she attempted to leave the scene.
