Letter: Shadow Lakes Resident Says “Yes” on Brentwood Measure L

by ECT

The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by JoAnn Klement, a Brentwood Resident.

Dear Editor:

My husband and I live in Shadow Lakes. The development that measure L concerns is literally in my backyard. When we bought our home in 2003 we were advised that something similar to what is being proposed currently was going to be built at some point. We have been expecting this expansion of Brentwood since then.

The information that is being spread around that Antioch is not interested or that their ULL situation precludes them from bringing that property into their city is not correct. Several people in Antioch have contacted the Blackhawk Nunn group to say call us on Nov. 6 if Brentwood says No on Nov. 5

In my opinion the pros outweigh the cons. Fixing American Avenue is so important and I am not sure Antioch will be interested in taking care of that.  Widening Balfour to four lanes to Deer Valley Road would also be a great improvement  and  extending Hillcrest to Balfour will favorably  impact the amount of traffic that flows through Brentwood  during school drop off and pick up times. The jobs this 20 year building program will create will be great for our building  trades people that live in our city and for future small business’s that will service that area.

The residents of the over 55 development will not add to our school population but will pay school fees and support the local shopping and restaurant businesses.

I know the stats that have been shown about the increase in traffic in this area but keep in mind that is going to happen whenever this property is developed and I would like the wonderful standards Brentwood has insisted on in past development to apply to this area as well.

Nicely said. What a pleasant departure from the misinformation machine of Rod Flohr and Kathy Griffen who have never let the truth interfere with their pathetic need for attention.

I agree 100%. Yes on L. Giving up control to Antioch is just dumb. Brentwood can control the standards and impacts. Anyone who thinks Antioch isn’t going to put it on the ballot needs their heads checked.

Terry I agree completely! I think another Trilogy style community (Where I live) that the Blackhawk Nunn group developed would be a wonderful addition to our community. No crime, very limited commute hour traffic, disposable income to spend locally, no school impacts from seniors etc etc
Plus millions in improvements to roads, fire service etc. the No vote gets us increased risk of a very different community and those who say Antioch wouldn’t jump at the chance to receive $200 million in fees and improvements for a project that mainly impacts Brentwood???? Are you kidding me??? Antioch would say yes to this gift all day long….

Brentwood standards certainly seem to be far higher than Antioch. Good luck to you folks. You control your destiny.

Don’t be fooled. Antioch will never acquire that land. Vote NO on L

Poorly written letter, not convincing at all. I am in Shadow Lakes and everyone I know is against the new development. Wonder how one person’s with Yes on L sign in her front yard gets published here. What about the rest of us who are against. Most of us have kids and commute to work, so we would have to deal with overcrowded schools and miserable traffic. Voting No. Thank you for trying, though.

Hold out and just maybe in the next several years we will hear a offer from ranch builders who will keep open land and bring in ranches like it should be if there is any building to be done dont settle if you love this area for its beauty not the ordinary of the bay area NO NO NO
