Knightsen Fire Station to Close on July 1

by ECT

Brentwood, CA — The East Contra Costa Fire Station 94, located at 15 A Street in Knightsen, will permanently close at 8:00 am on July1, 2017.

The station was previously re-opened after being shuttered for several years in part due to a joint effort in temporary funding provided through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Fire District, Contra Costa County, and the cities of Brentwood and Oakley.

The closure of the station is due to lack of funding and the District will move forward with 31 of the 36 fire suppression personnel operating out of three fire stations.

The locations of the open stations include:

  • Station 52 – 201 John Muir Park Way, Brentwood CA 94513
  • Station 53 – 530 O’Hara Ave, Oakley CA 94561
  • Station 59 – 1685 Bixler Road, Discovery Bay CA 94505

In May, the average response time was 8:34 minutes with Bethel Island resident receiving service within an average time of 13:32 minutes while Brentwood’s average was around 7-minutes.

Under a three-station district model, it’s anticipated that response times will be longer and station workloads will increase. The District is encouraging residents to take necessary precautions to ensure fire safety around ones property and stock up on medical supplies as needed.

The District would like to remind the public that a recent CityGate Associates Report states the ECCFPD should operate a nine station model to appropriately cover the District.

On June 30, a sign and contact information will be posted at the station informing the public the station is closed.

Did they close the Marsh Creek Station too? That isna fire station operating for east county right? Doesn’t that make four stations and not three after they close Knightsen? Sounds like more rehtoric to slide another attempt for a new tax that failed three times.

Marsh Creek is a CalFire station that has a contract to cover. If the contract ran out then they would not respond unless there was a fire in the SRA(state responsibility Area).
Due to the contract, even when the engines get a call CalFire will send another engine over to cover.
I hope that this helps

Whaaaaat? So our tax dollars don’t get to pay for dudes to lounge around and bench press all day!? What a travesty!

So you dont want to pay firefighters to sit around all day but no problem with ghetto monkeys getting paid to sit around all day on section 8 and welfare?

Our firefighters are not “sitting around”. They are available for 24 hrs a day to respond to OUR emergencies. Just they same way that your insurance policies are not wasted on the days that you don’t have claims or losses.

Specific commenters choose to thrive in ignorance, anger and envy when it comes to the fire department and the firefighters. They’d probably be the first ones crying for help when they find themselves in need.

Firefighters are not the enemy. Ignorance is!
