…MORE RAIN ON THE WAY BEGINNING LATE THURSDAY…
…HEAVIEST RAIN FORECAST FRIDAY EVENING INTO SATURDAY MORNING…

A SYSTEM WILL APPROACH THE SAN FRANCISCO AND MONTEREY BAY REGION
LATER THIS WEEK WITH RAIN FORECAST TO RETURN TO THE NORTH BAY
LATE THURSDAY EVENING AND THEN DOWN TO THE REST OF OUR REGION
THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING. RAIN WILL SWITCH OVER TO
SHOWERS BY LATE IN THE MORNING OR EARLY IN THE AFTERNOON ON
FRIDAY.

A SECOND PIECE OF ENERGY WILL QUICKLY MOVE TO OUR REGION WITH
ANOTHER ROUND OF RAIN FORECAST FOR FRIDAY EVENING INTO SATURDAY.
THIS SECOND FEATURE WILL BE MORE UNSTABLE AND HAVE A GREATER
POTENTIAL FOR PRODUCING MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN AT TIMES. OF
BIGGEST CONCERN IS FOR LATE FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY MORNING WHEN A FRONT
IS EXPECTED TO MOVE THROUGH WHICH WILL LIKELY LEAD TO THE HIGHEST
RAINFALL RATES. RAIN WILL SWITCH OVER TO SHOWERS LATER ON SATURDAY
WITH A FEW THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE. IN ADDITION TO THE
PRECIPITATION, SOUTH TO SOUTWEST WINDS WILL BE ON THE INCREASE.
MANY LOCATIONS WILL SEE WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 35 MPH
FOR FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY.

RAINFALL AMOUNTS BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON ARE FORECAST TO BE GREATEST
OVER COASTAL RANGES WHERE 2 TO 4 INCHES WILL BE COMMON. A FEW
LOCAL SPOTS WILL LIKELY SEE UPWARD OF 6″. FOR URBAN LOCATIONS,
AMOUNTS WILL VARY FROM 1.5″ TO 2.5″ FOR THE NORTH BAY, TO .75″ TO
1.25″ FOR THE REST OF THE AREA.

AT THE PRESENT TIME, THE BEST POTENTIAL FOR HYDROLOGICAL ISSUES
WILL BE WITH THE SECOND PIECE OF ENERGY ESPECIALLY LATE FRIDAY
INTO EARLY SATURDAY. AREAS OF PARTICULAR CONCERN INCLUDE SPOTS
THAT EXPERIENCED MINOR FLOODING IN THE PAST SYSTEM INCLUDING
HIGHWAY 1 ALONG THE BIG SUR COAST, PLUS PORTIONS OF SANTA CRUZ AND
SONOMA COUNTIES.

CALIFORNIA KING TIDE WILL ALSO OCCUR FRIDAY MORNING AT 6.6 FEET
WITH A NEARLY IDENTICAL TIDAL HEIGHT SATURDAY MORNING AT 1030 AM
OF 6.5 FEET. THE OTHER HIGH TIDE WILL BE 5.2 FEET AT 1139 PM
FRIDAY NIGHT. THE HIGH TIDES FRIDAY AND SATURDAY MORNING WILL LEAD
TO SOME FLOODING. THE COMBINATION OF RAIN AND HIGH TIDE WILL LEAD
TO A HEIGHTENED RISK FOR FLOODING.

A LONG PERIOD WESTERLY SWELL WILL ALSO BE PRESENT ALONG THE COAST
THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY WHICH WILL LEAD TO HAZARDOUS COASTAL
CONDITIONS.

PERSONS IN THE SAN FRANCISCO AND MONTEREY BAY REGION WITH OUTDOOR
PLANS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY SHOULD CLOSELY MONITOR THE LATEST
FORECASTS. IN ADDITION, PERSONS LOCATED NEAR STREAMS OR LOCATIONS
PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR VERY RAPID RISES AND THE
POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING.
