A traffic enforcement blitz in partnership between the Antioch Police Department and California Highway Patrol-Contra Costa netted 70 tickets on Tuesday including a 52-mph in a 25-mph zone.
Officers focused on areas which included portions of Lone Tree Way, Hillcrest and Gentrytown.
Antioch Police Chief Allan Cantando made the request to CHP to see if they could work a day to help its sole traffic enforcement officer help bring a presence to traffic laws in response to multiple complaints from residents about traffic laws not being followed. These complaints range from speeding, stop signs and red lights being ignored to various other laws being broken.
The chief explained Tuesday that by having officers out on the street providing traffic enforcement, it also means police presence is visible and reduces the likelihood a crime may occur as opposed to them not being there.
Antioch Police reinstated its traffic enforcement unit, currently a single man patrol, earlier this month. The officer is writing between 15-25 tickets per day.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!
I live where I could watch the whole thing yesterday on Gentry Town. It was wonderful! Thank you so much Chief for doing this. They could have gotten all 70 just on Gentry Town! We cheered every time we heard a bit of a siren and they didn’t even have to move their motorcycles! They pointed the radar and people pulled over. Great!
I’ve been passed on the right (bike lane) on Hillcrest several times by cars going well over 60 mph, so crazy….
Great Job ! a little hammy on the pictures
