5 Boats Catch Fire on Bethel Island

by ECT

At 5:34 am Thursday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of a boat fire on Bethel Island off Bethel Island Road near Dutch Slough Road.

The only problem is, ECCFPD units were on calls including Antioch on a 13-acre vegetation fire near the Marina. In place of ECCFPD, were Contra Costa Fire Engines from both Pacheco and Walnut Creek. With a large column of smoke, Battalion 8 cut loose ECCFPD units to respond after multiple boats were reported on fire near buildings.

Upon arrival, Battalion 5 reported 5 boats on fire and no threat to buildings. Fire attack began and the fire was limited in a boat yard which had large potential to grow.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

(Note – due to lack of resources, Engine 9 from Pacheco actually was the first engine on scene to this incident).
