On Friday, Contra Costa County released the names of 22 applicants who have applied for the vacant County Clerk-Recorder position.

Among the most notables who applied include former State Assemblywoman Catharine Baker (the only candidate not to currently live within the county), County Supervisor Karen Mitchoff, Concord City Councilmember Laura Hoffmeister, Antioch City Clerk and former City Councilman Arne Simonsen, Debra McKippop and Mark Ross of the Martinez City Council and Justin Wedel of the Walnut Creek City Council.

Deborah Cooper,  Paul Burgarino and Scott Konopasek all currently work in the Clerk-Recorders office who also applied.

David J. Twa, Chief Administrator Officer for Contra Costa County, announced today that 22 Applicants met the minimum qualifications to be considered for the position of Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder.

The deadline to apply was December 16 and whoever is selected will fulfill the remaining 3-years that Canciamilla had on his term.

The vacancy was created after Canciamilla resigned after he was being investigated by the FPPC and was ultimately hit with a $150k fine. According to the 13-page finding,  the spending was uncovered in an audit where it says Canciamilla used campaign funds for personal use, campaign reporting omissions/errors, and failure to timely file a pre-election campaign statement – in violation of the Political Reform Act.
