Test of the Contra Costa County Telephone Emergency Notification System Set for Monday

On Monday, the Contra Costa County Community Warning System (CWS) will be doing a test of the phones portion of the Telephone Emergency Notification System (TENS), which includes voice calls to landlines, cellular voice calls, text messages, and emails to devices pre-registered with CWS.

At this time, CWS will NOT be testing Sirens, Emergency Alert System, NOAA weather radios, Facebook or Twitter.

The test will be conducted in the areas (zones) surrounding the Chevron refinery in Richmond, Phillips 66 refinery in Rodeo, Shell refinery in Martinez ,and Dow Chemical facility in Pittsburg. Maps of the areas where the test will be conducted are available for review at: www.cococws.us.

WHEN: Monday, April 10, 2017, between 5:30 PM—8:00 PM. Each zone will have a 30 minute staggered start time.

  • 5:30 PM—Pittsburg/Antioch areas surrounding Dow Chemical facility
  • 6:00 PM—Martinez/Pacheco area surrounding Shell Refinery
  • 6:30 PM—Rodeo area surrounding Phillips 66 Refinery
  • 7:00 PM—Richmond/San Pablo area surrounding Chevron Refinery

The test is being performed to test the call capacity, capabilities and quality of the TENS vendor for the CW.

Following the test, there will be a brief online survey of a sample of residents to determine call quality and system behavior. For the survey,go to: www.cococws.us.

“This is a test of the telephone portion of the Contra Costa County Community Warning System. This is only a test. There is currently no emergency in your area. For more information about this test or to register to receive alerts on your cell phone or email during
actual emergencies go to www.cococws.us or do an internet search for CWS Alerts. This is only a test.”
