Pinole Police announced Monday a child molestation arrest of a 60-year-old man in the city of Pinole.

According to police, on March 30, 2017, the Pinole Police Department received a report of suspected child molestation occurring at a residence in the City of Pinole. The suspect was identified as 60-year-old Ruben Gonzalez. Due to the nature of the accusations, Contra Costa County Children and Family Services (CFS) responded to the residence with Police Department staff to take custody of multiple juveniles residing in the home. As officers arrived, Gonzalez fled but was located and detained a short distance from his residence. He was later booked at the Martinez Detention Facility.

The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) responded to further investigate the matter. During the investigation four victims were identified. Detailed statements were obtained from all four victims who alleged Gonzalez sexually abused them from the ages of four through seventeen respectively. The majority of abuse spanned over an approximate fifteen year period.

Police are not identifying the current age or gender of the victims.

On April 5th, 2017, Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office filed forty-seven felony charges against Gonzalez in relation to sexual crimes involving children. Gonzalez is currently in-custody at the Martinez Detention Facility and is being held on $46,075,000.00 bail.

During the investigation, police learned Gonzalez was currently employed by the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD). WCCUSD representatives have cooperated with our investigation and advised Gonzalez’ most recent assignment was as a substitute night custodian working at various schools within the school district. WCCUSD representatives advised Gonzalez previously worked as a yard supervisor at Olinda Elementary School in the City of Richmond. Additionally, WCCUSD representatives advised Gonzalez has been terminated from any position with the District and has been banned from all WCCUSD schools.

Police are urging any additional victims to contact us or their local police department. This is an on-going investigation and anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the Pinole Police Department at (510) 724-8950.
