Man Fatally Shot on BART Train in Oakland Identified as Antioch Man

BART Police on Friday have released two additional photos of the suspect from Saturday’s fatal shooting and have identified the victim.

The Alameda County Sheriffs Office, Coroner’s Bureau identified the victim as Carlos Misael Funez-Romero, 19 of Antioch. The family of the victim was notified Thursday.

The shooting occured at 7:50 pm on January 9 as the train pulled into the West Oakland Station.

Original reports were that the suspect had a shaved head but these photos show he may have a close cut haircut and possibly a light mustache. BART Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.

“We cannot provide details on how and where these pictures were obtained at this time as this is an on-gong and active investigation,” said BART spokesperson Alicia Trost. “Investigators continue to analyze multiple sources of surveillance tapes.”

BART Police Ask for Public’s Help Identifying Shooting Suspect

BART-SuspectBART Police released four surveillance photos (attached) today of the suspect in the fatal shooting that occurred Saturday night on board a train at the West Oakland Station.  At a press conference, Chief Kenton Rainey said he was releasing the photos after working with other law enforcement partners to help identify the suspect and is now asking for the public’s assistance.  The four photos taken by BART’s security system show an adult male, matching the description provided by eyewitnesses, leaving the West Oakland Station right after the shooting occurred.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the shooting is asked to call BART Police’s anonymous tip line at 510-464-7011 or one of the detectives in charge of the case at 510-464-7040- ask for Detective Sanchez or Sergeant Power.

The male victim has yet to be identified because he had no identifying information.  The victim is likely between the ages of 19-25, possibly Latino with black hair.  Chief Rainey said it is still unknown the relationship, if any, between the victim and the suspect.  Chief Rainey confirmed a knife was recovered at the scene.

It’s the same guy. One is a closer shot. Both photos show hair.

Not sure if it’s the lighting or what but two different complections n the jackets r different colors….different hair…one is a fade n the other is bald…

I thought it was two different guys too. BART video is not very good quality. Shame, Shame, Shame! BART should have wireless HD cameras with audio. No excuse after 9/11 not to but BART still is living in the ’70’s with their new outdated platform signs.

Even if you don’t think they look the same (which they do…just poor video), how many guys are at BART with the same green jacket (very uncommon jacket) and same black strap over their jacket at the same time? Wise up!
