Discovery Bay: Firefighters Battle Barn Fire, Four Goats Die

by ECT

At 10:57 am Friday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a fire in the 3800 Block of Orwood Road in Discovery Bay.

While responding, a giant plume of smoke was seen from as far as Antioch per a CONFIRE engine in response. Upon arrival of Battalion Chief 5, he had a fully involved barn on fire with a motorhome inside the structure.

Per the District, the first arriving engine came from Station 52 (Balfour & John Muir Parkway) with a 14-minute response time—prior to the incident, Engine 59 in Discovery Bay was on a emergency call on Vasco while Engine 93 was on scene of a gas line that had been hit at Empire and Oakley Road.

The fire caused $50,000 in damages to various pieces of farm equipment, RV, out building and tires stored in large plastic tubes. Four goats also perished in the fire along with some wine grapes.

All three District engines were committed for over 90 minutes leaving no engines available for the rest of the District. The probable cause is being listed as spontaneous combustion from manure in goat enclosure.

I genuinely feel sorry for your community. You were all sold a bill of goods by groups and “concerned citizens” that these greedy firefighters and their pensions were to blame and enough of you bought it and when the measures failed they celebrated, patted themselves on the back and your community is left to suffer.
Those same people are gearing up right now on Medianews Group article pages right now.

Surfpuppy216 Wendy Lack, Kris Hunt, Dan Borenstine, Barndage, Coco Tax, Dan Stevens followallthemoney, eatingdogfood, et al.

The moment your community proposes a fix they’ll be back in full blast.

They genuinely sound convincing and they’ll offer you everything from outright rage to compelling numbers given to by “experts”. some of them even pride themselves on showing up to your community meeting to influence your elected officials.

Not one of them lives in your community!

Im sorry to say don’t live amongst you and I’m not trying to convince you to adopt one policy over another.

Beware these carpetbaggers that will because they are waiting for you to act.

No need for carpetbaggers Eddie. Your last name is not Haskell is it? The majority of the voters and the majority of the land owners decided that they all pay the same taxes as the rest of the county. Three times ! They want the politicians to fix what they broke. It has absolutely nothing to do with firefighters. Even though they pushed the Chief off of the plank, they are still supported. Sell your trash somewhere else.Solutions are there. It just takes a real leader to implement them. We have no real leaders only politicians that double talk. The next election people need to remember what politicians put themselves first before pubic safety.

It appears you are just the sort they are hoping for.
In no way are your public servants supported and the services you probably believe exist for you are not there. But the bigger picture is one of value. Your community is being led to believe that you are overy paying for services rendered. The fact is you are getting exactly what you are paying for and those who’s job it is to let you know this are failing you.
No trash to be sold sir. You live in a beautiful community (if you in fact live there) with vibrant society but the services being provided are sub standard of anything but a 3rd world country.
Good luck

FF Supporter, once again you show a complete absence of critical thinking skills.

A person with a piece of property in the middle of the Sierra Nevada mountain range also pays 1%. That doesn’t mean he’s going to get fire service protection with 10 minute response times.

You bought a home in an area that had an inadequate funding model for fire services. That’s on you because you didn’t do your homework. Stop blaming the rest of the planet for your shortcomings.

The government isn’t going to give you a handout. Sooner you figure that out the sooner the discussion toward a meaningful solution can move on without your childish tantrums. Ranting on message boards while offering no intelligent solutions solves nothing.
