Contra Costa County to Host Gun Buyback Program Today

by ECT

The following message is courtesy of the Brentwood Police Officers Association regarding today’s Gun Buyback Program which will occur at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

On Saturday, August 3, 2013, the Brentwood Police Department will partner with local police agencies in a gun buyback program sponsored by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

This will be a county-wide event with participation from the Antioch Police Department, Brentwood Police Department, Concord Police Department, Martinez Police Department, Pittsburg Police Department, and the Richmond Police Department.

The event will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013, from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. This event will allow Contra Costa citizens to anonymously turn in operable firearms in exchange for gift cards. County residents are asked to transport the firearms to the exchange locations unloaded with the safety on. Police officers will be ready to accept the firearms with no questions asked. Residents may be asked to show an ID or utility bill only to establish residency in Contra Costa County. Residents can receive up to $200.00 in gift cards for an assault weapon, up to $100.00 in gift cards for handguns, and up to $50.00 in gift cards for shotguns or rifles.

The gun buyback event will be conducted at three locations. The east county location will be at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds in Antioch. Those wanting to turn in guns at this location must arrive at the main entrance located on W. 10th Street. The east county collection site is hosted by the Antioch, Brentwood and Pittsburg Police Departments. The central county site will be at the parking lot for the Concord Pavilion. This site will be hosted by the Concord and Martinez Police Departments. The west county site is located at the Richmond City Hall in the City of Richmond. The Richmond Police Department is the host agency for this site. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

The gun buyback programs everywhere show the amount of guns out there that are disposable. Just like drugs, the buyback programs will never scratch the surface of the real problem. That is enforcing existing laws and following through with the jail punishment. Todays Times article regarding the release of 10,000 jail inmates due to overcrowding only shows how broken our bloated government really is. Until we fix the broken bloated government the rampage of drugs and crime will flourish. We should be looking at the way Texas handles their crime.

My only critique is to not only be a voice, but back it up by putting your name behind it.

What I wonder is, why would you possibly do that??? You spend $400-$800 for a shotgun or rifle, $800-1200+ for a handgun, and well over $1000 for one of those semi-automatic sporting rifles. Why would I sell my weapon for 10% of what I paid? There are sufficient pawnshops, gun stores, etc that sell used guns. And you actually would get close to the actual value of your gun in actual money…
