CHP: DUI Checkpoint Scheduled for Saturday Night

by ECT

MARTINEZ, CA – The Contra Costa Area office of the California Highway Patrol will be conducting a “Sobriety Checkpoint” tonight, January 27, 2018, in an unincorporated area of Contra Costa County.

This safety event will be conducted from 9PM to 2AM. Traffic volume permitting, all vehicles will be checked, and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs can expect to be arrested. Remember that DUI doesn’t just mean booze.

The event is part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.”

In addition to this press release, we will use our CHP-Contra Costa Facebook and CHP-Contra Costa Twitter pages to provide messaging to encourage the use of occupant restraints, adherence to the speed limit, and sober driving.

Good. Glad to see this. Need more of these DUI checkpoints, especially in East County. I just wish they didn’t have to advertize them. Lock em up! All the Drunks and now Potheads behind the wheel who have no concern for the wellbeing of others. With todays easy access to Uber or Lyft, there is no need to drink or get high, then get behind the wheel.

A responsible driver ( not smoking and driving at same time) doesnt impair your driving like booze if anything it helps by being more cautious and help with road rage and also makes you a more curtious driver. I don’t smoke anymore but when I did I would ( always being resonaible and care for others) be stoned and drive and these D.A. Wouldn’t enrage me at all I would simply let it go. If I didn’t smoke it would often escalates to a lot of confrontations that were not safe for me and the other people around. Just be a responsible pot smoker and make right choices. Pot and alcohol are so different than each other like oil and water.

Don’t drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. They both impair you. If you need weed to calm you down you need anger management, not drugs. What a moron.

Jet Jan 28, 2018 - 8:36 am

Right, anger management with professionals who will likely prescribe big pharma drugs and get the user addicted. And those folks still get behind the wheel. What morons for suggesting opioids instead of herbs.

Actually for anger or some kind of close mania, you’d be prescribed a mood stabilizer and not an opiate. But I agree, the yellow journalism towards weed was ridiculous when Hearst did it in the 30’s and equally as unequivocated in 2018. People need to realize it’s not about the plant only, it’s the topic of freedom of choice, the justice system, and simply human physiology. It’s a disgrace how many people don’t know about the endocannabinoid system in our bodies.
