FATAL 2 Car Crash on Marsh Creek Road

Byron, Ca. –Saturday night at about 11:30pm, Contra Costa CHP received a call of a two car crash at Marsh Creek Road just west of Byron Highway.  Upon CHP and emergency personnel arrival, a black Volkswagen GTI (driven by a 21 yr old male from Discovery Bay) driving east had collided a brown Toyota Tacoma truck (driven by a 47 yr old female from Oakley), also driving east. The Volkswagen overturned across the road and collided with a wooden power pole.  The Toyota left the roadway but stayed on its wheels and ended up in a dirt field.

The male driver of the Volkswagen was pronounced deceased at the scene. The female driver only sustained minor injuries. The initial investigation indicates the male driving the Volkswagen was driving at unsafe speeds above the posted speed limit.  While approaching the Toyota, the Volkswagen clipped the back of it, causing the Toyota driver to lose control across the roadway into a dirt field. From the impact, the Volkswagen was propelled into the air, overturned, and struck the power pole.

In the initial investigation, it appears speed and alcohol may have been a factor in this crash. If anyone has information regarding this or the events leading up to it, please contact Contra Costa CHP at (925) 646-4980.

According to the County, this occurred in the Discovery Bay area, not Byron.

Prayers go out to the accident victims.

Discovery Bay is Byron! SMH!

Christine, and your assumption is based on what? Sorry to inform you that Discovery Bay is not Byron (never was) and Byron is not Discovery Bay (never was). They are two separate communities with one being a CDP (census designated place) and the other being a Independent Special District/Town (CSD).

You might was to call the County, or the Town of Discovery Bay. Don’t try calling “Byron” because there is no one to call, no office, no governmental designation. Byron is unincorporated. That means they are the unincorporated Contra Costa County and listed as a census designated place (CDP).

I’m guessing civics is not your strong point.
