Brentwood: Arson Suspected After Multiple Porta Potties Catch Fire

by ECT

At 5:06 am on July 4, East Contra Costa firefighters were dispatched to a report of a residential structure fire in the 500 block of Mandevilla Drive in Brentwood.

Located near Central Blvd and Walnut Blvd, a large cloud of smoke was observed by Station 59 in Discovery Bay. Upon arrival, Chief Henderson reported a porta potty on fire that began to catch the exterior of a home on fire.

Brentwood Police and a fire investigator were called to the scene where a third porta potty was set up to catch fire, but never ignited.

According to Chief Hugh Henderson, he stated that because these were new construction homes, they are easier to catch fire because the wood is exposed and could have become much bigger than it was.
