BART Police Department detectives have been actively investigating the assault that took place at the Lafayette BART Station Sunday morning and have discovered the following details.
Train car video shows two adults boarding the train car at the Rockridge Station and walking through the train. The two subjects then stop at a seat where an unidentified third subject was apparently sleeping. The two subjects then opened the sleeping man’s backpack and removed multiple items. The man awoke and the two subjects walked away. Once the train arrived at the Lafayette Station, all three exited the train and a fight took place on the station platform–with the suspect producnig a knife.
BART Police said Sunday the first victim, described as a 20 year old male, sustained a minor injury to the head. A second victim, described as a 19 year old male, sustained a hand injury. Both were transported to John Muir Medical Center for non life-threatening injuries. It is unclear whether they know each other, or if they have any relationship with the attacker.
Both injuries were described as non-life threatening.
The third party is a white man who is believed to be 20 to 25 years old, stands 5’6” to 5’8”, has a thin build, short sandy brown hair, and was last seen wearing a green hooded jacket, tan colored cargo pants, and white tennis shoes with green or blue shoe laces. BART police detectives are seeking information from or about this man and are releasing several images from surveillance video.
The other two parties have already been identified by investigators. The initial report that there may have been a third victim was unfounded.
