BART Police Arrest Juveniles for February Assault at West Oakland

by ECT

This week, BART police arrested several juveniles suspected of committing battery on a passenger at West Oakland Station. On Feb. 27 at 9 p.m., four teenage females punched another female passenger in the head multiple times aboard a train.  The female passenger reported the incident to BART Police the following day, and the case has since been under investigation.

Thanks to the victim’s account and assistance from other witnesses (including our Station Agent who saw the suspects run out of the station), BART Police detectives were able to identify all four suspects. This case highlights the importance of “see something, say something,” as without these witnesses coming forward with their information this crime would have likely gone unsolved.

Three of the four females were arrested this week. The first on Wednesday, the second on Thursday, and the third arrested today. There is an outstanding warrant for the fourth female juvenile suspect, and she is expected to be taken into custody soon.

“Our detectives are actively working these cases involving juveniles: issuing warrants, and making arrests,” said Acting Chief Jeff Jennings.  “We’ve increased patrols and police presence, and we’ve kicked off a Regional Taskforce to address the increase in crimes committed by juveniles at BART and in the cities we serve.”

The three female juveniles were all booked into Alameda County Juvenile Hall for the charge of battery resulting in great bodily injury.

A number of people who were attacked on BART by the 40-60 juvenile thugs are now suing BART for creating a dangerous and potentially deadly situation. One family, who were kicked and bruised is suing BART for $3 million. If it were me, I’d sue for $30 million plus change!
