Aug. 15: 50’s Car Show Benefiting Oakley Senior Center

You are invited to join the Oakley Senior Center as they present a 1950’s themed, classic-car show at 215 Second Street in Oakley from 1-5pm. August 15: Oakley Offers Free Mulch
Back by popular demand! Wood chips will once again be available for pick-up tomorrow, August 15th from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the City Yard at the corner of Neroly Road and Main Street (entrance on Neroly). Residents need to bring their own tools/shovels and bags/containers to load and carry the mulch, and a tarp to cover if necessary.

The wood chips are being offered for free through a partnership between the City of Oakley, Diablo Water District and West Coast Arborists, Inc. (WCA).


 

 Aug 15: Antioch Library Presents Resources for Positive Change in AntiochResourcesflyer

The Antioch Library is hosting an event on Saturday, August 15 entitled “Resources for a Positive Change in Antioch” which will be held from 10:00 am to 11:30 am.

The event is aimed at those who are tired of negativity about what you read about regarding Antioch. For those tired of the complaints regarding Antioch. They also want to highlight how people can learn to be part of the solution.

The panelists will include:

  • Trine Gallegos, Freelance Columnist for Contra Costa Times
  • Lori Cook, Cleaning Up Antioch, One Home at a Time
  • Beverly Knight, Empowering Antioch
  • Tina Price, Parents Connected
  • Jo Loss, Volunteer Center of the East Bay

The event will be focusing on the resources available to improve Antioch and bring it into a positive light such as reporting garbage, volunteering, and engaging the community.

Each panelist will contribute their knowledge and experiences, and then we will have a Q&A with the audience. Social Media will also be discussed.

Doug-HardcastleAugust 15: Oakley Mayor at the Market

Oakley’s Mayor will be at Grocery Outlet tomorrow to hear from you. Every month the Mayor will visit a local supermarket to allow you to talk to about issues, ask questions, discuss concerns, and offer comments or suggestions.

There will be no agendas or speeches, just a chance to come out and introduce yourself and talk about what matters to you.

August: Antioch Free Saturday Summer Concerts Return to Downtown Antioch
Once again Waldie Plaza in downtown Antioch will be the place to be on Saturday nights in August for free concerts by the river. Local bands will provide a variety of music from 6-8 PM in Waldie Plaza, located between G & I Streets (by Antioch City Hall off of 2nd Street).

Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and visit a downtown restaurant before the concert or bring a light meal/snack with you. Wadie Plaza is a designated park and park rules apply (no alcohol, dogs on leash, etc.).

The musical lineup is:

  • August 15th – The Love Handles (70’s, 80’s & 90’s)
  • August 22nd – Project 4 (Punk, Soul, Latin, R&B)
  • August 29th – Toree McGee & Rodeo House (Today’s Country)

Zia Ranch FundraiserAug. 15: Zia Ranch to Host Poker Tournament Fundraiser

You are invited to help support Zia Ranch by playing in a Texas Hold’Em Poker Tournament to help raise funds for Therapeutic Horsemanship for Special Needs Kids.

The event is $65 to participate which includes dinner. Prizes are $500, $250, and $150.

The fundraiser is being held Saturday, August 15 at the Prewett Ranch Community Center at 4701 Lone Tree Way in Antioch.

oakley-fishing-derbyAugust 22nd: 12th Annual Oakley’s Kids Fishing Derby

Join us for a fun‐filled day of “catch and release” fishing for children and families. Prizes will be awarded for biggest fish, smallest fish, and most fish caught.

The Derby will be followed by a corn dog lunch. Pre‐register at the Recreation Division office at 3231 Main Street.

Bring your own pole and bait will be provided. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the Derby begins at 9:00 a.m. through 11:00 a.m.

August 22: Brentwood Bark in the Park
The Brentwood Advisory Neighborhood Committee, BANC, will be sponsoring our Bark in the Park event for the third year on Aug 22, 2015 in Brentwood City Park on the corner of Oak St. and 2nd Street. Registration begins at 9am and the parade begins at 10am. Costumes are permitted but not required. Ironhouse-LogoAugust 22: Ironhouse Sanitary District Will Celebrate 70 Years

On Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the district will host a family-friendly event to both remember the past and look to the future. Oakley and Bethel Island residents can come out and have lunch on the district, take a tour of the Water Recycling Facility, and get a look at the equipment the district uses to keep the environment clean today.

Children will have a chance to play in the Kidz Zone, while adults and families can enjoy live music. The event will feature a ceremony that concludes with the dedication of a bronze plaque honoring the men and women responsible for building the strong, environmentally sound sanitary district you see today.

Keynote speaker will be Steven Moore of the California State Water Resources Control Board. Also scheduled to speak at the event are 9th District U.S. Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-Livermore), and Oakley Mayor Doug Hardcastle. For more information, see ISD’s website at www.IronhouseSanitaryDistrict.org.

Art-Wine-Jazz
August 28-29: Art Wine & Jazz Festival 2015 At Streets of Brentwood

The Brentwood Art Society is hosting the 14th annual Brentwood Art, Wine, & Jazz Festival at The Streets of Brentwood, which brings together local vintners, local artists from multiple disciplines, and some of the Bay Area’s finest musicians representative of multiple genres of Jazz.

Artist Garden
Twenty plus vendors featured original pieces by local artists who worked in varied media including oil, watercolor, pencil, clay, bronze, and multi-media, forty plus vendors in all.

Wine at the Fountain
A host of local vintners and wineries introduced you to some of the award winning wines that are produced right here in our own community, including Hannah Nicole Vineyards, Bloomfield Vineyards, Tamayo Family Vineyards, J Doran Vineyards, and Cline Cellars. For those who prefered a micro-brew, Black Diamond Brewery and BJ’s Restaurant and Brewery provided cold brews.

Jazz On The Stage
Performers from among the internationally acclaimed musical talents that we are blessed to have reside in our Northern California Area took the stage to provide outstanding music during the event. Talents of our local high school students were showcased by performances by Big Bands of Liberty & Heritage High Schools and a cappella groups such as Divas, Pink Ladies, & Jag.

Family Affair
Activities designed to capture the interests of children young and old alike were again in the popular Children’s Area, where children worked with clay, painted at the easels, or made a musical instrument. The Wall of Art displayed creations of students from the Brentwood Union School District. Also returning this year was the sand sculpture that’s always a hit and Chalk Art, drawn on the street by local high school art students.

The Brentwood Art, Wine, & Jazz Festival is open to the public FREE of charge. It is the largest annual fundraiser of the Brentwood Art Society, which supports and contributes to continuing arts programs and events in the community, including the Art Docent program at all schools of the Brentwood Union School District, scholarships to graduating Seniors, summer Art Walk Events, the Artists Open Studio Tour, Student Art Show, Broadway Under the Stars theater performances, and a monthly Open Mic hosted by the city’s poet laureate, Kati Short.

Walk to DarknessOct. 10: Oakley to Host Suicide Prevention Walk
The City of Oakley will host its first annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk to help raise awareness of suicide prevention. The walk will take place at Cypress Grove Community Park, located at 4001 Frank Hengel Way. Registration will begin at 9:00am and the walk will start at 10:00am.

ThWiskey-&-Watches-K-and-Cois event is an exclusive 2-hour in store event showcasing K & Co’s vast collection of fine timepieces as well as provide a time to sip some whiskey and learn more about the watch industry. Many people only have a surface understanding of fine watches and watchmaking based on the mass media.
