Here are a look at events in East Contra Costa County for the weekend of August 12-13.

8:00 am: Brentwood Farmers Market
The 2017 season will run every Saturday through November 18  located at First Street between Oak and Chestnut.


8:00 am: Oakley Kids Fishing Derby
The City of Oakley will host the 14th Annual Oakley Kids Fishing Derby at the Antioch/Oakley shoreline pier. This is a free catch and release fishing event for children and their families with children up to age 15.

Bring your own fishing pole, bait will be supplied—limited loaner poles available.

Prizes will be awarded for:

  • Biggest Fish (by length)
  • Smallest Fish (by length)
  • Most fish caught

Event registration is from 8:00 am to 9:00 am with the fishing derby from 9:00 am to 11:00 am with a free lunch to be served. For more information, call the Recreation Division at (925) 625-7044 or email [email protected].


9:00 am: Pittsburg Farmers Market
Join the Pittsburg Farmers Market Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm between May 6 through October 21 located at Railroad Ave between 5th and 6th Streets.


12:00 pm: Hook Line & Sinker Bass Fishing Tournament
Hook, Line & Sinker of Oakley will be hosting its Inaugural Open Team Fishing Tournament on August 12-13 out of Russo’s Marina on Bethel Island.

  • Aug 12: 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm
  • Aug 13 – 6:00 am to 12:00 pm

The event is open to both pro and amateur fisherman with a team buy-in of $300 which includes Big Fish and payback for 1 in 5 places. They are anticipating between 80-100 boats and hope to have a $30k total purse to payout.

All sign ups taken the day of the event will be subject to a $20 late fee and must be paid in cash.

4:00 pm: Sugar Barge Bar & Grill Hosts Dustin Heer

Join Sugar Barge as they host performer Dustin Heer from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm while enjoying food and cocktails. Located at 1440 Sugar Barge Road, Bethel Island.


6:00 pm: Antioch Summer Concert Series

The free Saturday Summer Concert Series continues through August 26th.

The concerts are held in Waldie Plaza in downtown Antioch, across from City Hall, from 6-8 PM. The concerts are for all ages and is a gathering place for family and friends, as well as an great location to make new friends. The concert venue backdrop is the beautiful Delta River, along with occasional trains, sailboats, tugboats and more. A nice summer breeze will keep you cool and comfortable as you enjoy a variety of music though-out the summer. Parking is available in the many parking lots in downtown Antioch.

The 2017 remaining concert lineup includes:

  • August 5th, Tuck & Roll; 50s, 60s & 70s;
  • August 12th, Project 4, Punk, Soul, Latin & R&B;
  • August 19th, Last Call, Southern Rock;
  • August 26th, Frankie G & the Conviction, High-energy Blues & Grooves.

Seating is not provided, lawn chairs and blankets are recommended.

8:00 pm: El Campanil Host Mariachi Divas
Get ready for a south-of-the-border evening of cheerful music with southern California’s own Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea.

Founded in 1999 by trumpet player Cindy Shea, the Two Time Grammy Award Winning Mariachi
Divas de Cindy Shea is a multicultural, all-female ensemble that continues to push and expand the scope of mariachi music. Since 2003, Mariachi Divas has been the official mariachi of the Disneyland Resort where they entertain audiences of all ages and backgrounds on a year-round basis. In addition to performing regularly at the Disneyland Resort and when they are not busy recording albums, Mariachi Divas and their music can be found in films, music videos, Hallmark greeting cards, and movie soundtracks a well as touring across the United States and Mexico.
