Two schools were damaged Friday night after a vehicle attempting to evade Brentwood Police broke through school fences before fleeing on foot.

According to Brentwood Police, the incident started around At 10:40 pm Friday after an offer observed a vehicle driving erratically and spinning tires. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop and the vehicle took off on the officer.

Brentwood-Police-Edna-Hill-School-3The vehicle reportedly took off from downtown Brentwood along 1st Street and turned onto Rolando Ct. where it entered Garin Elementary School.

“The vehicle broke through a Garin Elementary School fence and drove through the school before exiting through another fence. The vehicle then drove through a fence at Edna Hill Middle School and through that school as well. When it attempted to break through another fence to exit the school, the vehicle became disabled,” explained Lieutenant Sal DiMercurio. “At that point, the unknown male driver fled the scene on foot.”

Lt. DiMercurio stated the vehicle was not listed as stolen.

According to Brentwood Union School District Superintendent Dana Eaton, Edna Hill had some pretty serious fence damage and damage to the grass. There was also glass all over the Edna Hill blacktop from where the car crashed through a second gate.

“I really appreciate Sergeant Thompson of the Brentwood Police, who notified me at 2AM of what had happened,” said Eaton. “Edna Hill Principal Kirsten Jobb beat me to the school site this morning and was out personally picking up glass off the school grounds. Garin principal Stacy Joslin was out early as well to make sure her school was safe. Those principals worked with Robin Schmitt, our CBO and Bob Brown our Coordinator of Maintenance to make sure all was cleaned up and temporary fences were erected today so that the school is secured.”

Eaton further stated he was really fortunate to work with such an amazing group of people who spent their Saturday making sure that our students will continue to have a safe and seamless school experience on Monday.

“We are cooperating fully with the Brentwood Police Department and they have full access to our security cameras,” said Eaton. “I am confident that they will catch the driver because they always do. We will work with the police to seek full prosecution and full restitution for the damage that was caused.”

Brentwood police had no estimate on the amount of damage from the incident as of Saturday afternoon, but stated they are currently following up on leads.
