At 5:44 pm Monday, Antioch Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 5000 block of Lone Tree Way in the City of Antioch.
Upon arrival, police and firefighters located a male subject suffering from a gunshot wound to the back at Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen. A medical helicopter was requested and was to land at Williamson Ranch Park.
It is unclear if the shooting occurred on Lone Tree Way or at another location.

According to Lieutenant Powell Meads, the victim shot was an employee of Popeye’s suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Several witnesses on scene provided police with the name of a suspect, another employee of Popeye’s, where police went to a nearby home and surrounded. They later detained him outside of the home and witnesses identified him as the shooter.

On July 29, 2019 at approximately 5:45PM, the Antioch Police Department began receiving several calls reporting gunshots fired inside of Popeyes, located at 5019 Lone Tree Wy. As officers were responding they received additional information that the victim was an employee, and the responsible had fled on foot.
When officers arrived on scene, they located the 23-year-old male victim, who was suffering from at least one gunshot wound. It was confirmed the victim was an employee of Popeyes.
The victim was transported via medical helicopter to a local hospital, where he was rushed into surgery and is currently in critical condition.
Several witnesses on scene identified the suspect as 22-year-old Antoine Waller. Waller was also an employee of Popeyes and had gone home sick earlier in the day. Officers located a nearby address for Waller in the 5000 block of Catanzaro Wy.
Officers quickly responded to the address and established a perimeter. Efforts were made to contact Waller, and after a short period of time he exited the home and surrendered. Evidence linking Waller to the shooting was recovered inside the residence.
The firearm believed to be used in the shooting was also located and had previously been reported stolen. Waller is a convicted felon and not able to legally possess a firearm.
The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
Waller was arrested and will be booked into County Jail for a variety of felony charges including attempted murder and weapons violations.

Yeah, I see a problem with probably the manner in which the “law abiding citizen” stored their handgun. Probably had it under their bed or in a nightstand next to their bed, and low and behold, their house gets burglarized and the “perps” find a loaded handgun, take it and sell it. I know, the “law abiding citizen” had it stored in that manner to wake up out of a sound sleep, get their gun and “go after” evildoers who entered the house in the middle of the night. No one said anything about “you being the bad guy” if someone breaks into your house, and not holding *&%$heads responsible for their actions.
I bet you will feel really proud when a child, who has no knowledge of gun safety, at your house gets your gun from on top of your counter and accidentally shoots themselves or someone else. You will probably be crying, and WON’T be saying, “This is ‘Merica, I can do what I want with my gun” — well perhaps you will, as the police lead you from your house in handcuffs because you committed Felony Child Endangerment by storing your gun in an irresponsible manner.
Answer this for me, picture if you will, you are sound asleep in your bedroom, someone breaks into your house, and very quietly goes into your bedroom. Stick a gun in your face and that is how you are woken up. Now dickhead, your gun you have for personal protection in your nightstand or worse yet on top of your nightstand is in the hands of the person who broke into your house. Because most people who break into an occupied house at night are NOT there to just steal things — ever hear of the Golden State Rapist (who should be executed on the spot should he be found guilty — which he will be, I hope an exception to Newsom’s last fiasco with getting rid of the death penalty can be obtained) who is now in custody and awaiting trial — I got off subject, sorry. We grew up with parents who were gun enthusiasts. There were firearms all over the house, in clear view. Some were even in the refrigerator But we kids were trained to have respect for guns. When we reached age 12, we each got our firearm and were taken to the desert to shoot at cans. Always wore ear protection.
Today, as adults, we have security systems as well as big dogs which roam the house at night. Two outside and two inside. Sleep with a loaded gun under my pillow . . within easy reach.
Well let me tell you. When these little hoods break in your home the laws are not strick enough. Poor little one come from a bad home don’t know any better. My grandma raised me I walked to school. Here is the definition of racism — the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. So by you just saying that black men commit a higher percentage of violent crimes without citing any statistics like from the FBI or DOJ is a racist statement in and of itself.
Society knows darn well that blacks and Hispanics commit a disproportionate amount of crime, followed by whites. Asians commit the least… especially Japanese. How many Japanese men are in prison? How many Japanese gang members are there? Take your liberal spin elsewhere.
Check crime stats ANYWHERE. Check the FBI or DOJ stats yourself. Blacks and Hispanics are overrepresented in prison. Hispanics have the highest number of gang members in CA, followed closely by blacks.
Melanie never said any race was superior. She asked why black men commit a higher percentage of crimes. I can answer that. Lack of education, and the unwillingness to work for a living. Gang banging, car jacking, crack smoking. Crime pays until you’re caught.

Here are more stats that you can look up yourself. Whites and Asians excel academically. Hispanics have the highest drop out rates, followed closely by blacks. Asians have the highest level of education, followed closely by whites. Lack of education does lead to crime, especially in areas that are expensive to live in. Poverty is one of the leading causes of crime, and blacks and Hispanics are poorer cultures. Once again, it’s reality and backed up by statistical facts. You don’t want to accept the truth.

If one would actually listen to what you both say, they would believe that uneducated blacks and hispanics are the ONLY people doing crime. The areas you mentioned have their share of crime, sometimes violent, just last year some rich, educated white guy shot his neighbor in Danville, there’s Domestic Violence in Piedmont, Alamo, Atherton too, it might not get reported but I guarantee it happens. So what is your point ? White educated men do commit crimes, some have been serial killers — take for example Ted Bundy, the BTK Killer in Kansas, the Golden State Rapist — he was a former cop. What do they have in common ? — All are white males who were educated, charming and did NOT live in poverty.

You are correct when you say a lack of education leads to crime, that is why in the early 90s when the policies for the new county jail were written by Chief Deputy Sheriff Larry Ard and Sheriff Richard Rainey, they had brought in teachers to assist inmates (those that wanted it) obtain their GEDs/Diplomas, they cited evidence and studies that show educated people (no matter at what level) have LOWER rates of recidivism. However, since those programs are no longer offered, because new administrators feel they are “fluff”, recidivism rates have remained high, because jails are “warehouses” because of being overcrowded. It is a deep and complex issue, more time that what we have here on this blog.
My question to you, Melanie, since poverty leads to crime, what are you going to do about it ? Just sit back and say oh well and wait to become a victim or are you going to contact your legislators to have them get off their asses and put their money where their mouth is to do something about solving poverty in America. Oh I know what you are going to say, that it won’t matter because “they are all crooked”. I guarantee if enough people contact them and demand action, they will act, because they all want to be your best friends, and will do whatever it takes to keep them in office.
As rich and powerful as this country is, we should not have the violent crime problem that we have here. So what are you going to do about it besides getting angrier and engaging me on this blog after I have BAITED you into responding.

People here have gotten way off track — I will admit I did too. But does it make a difference if the race and victim of the shooter? The bottom line is a violent crime occurred, and labeling, pigeon holing people into groups is not going to help the problem. And NO I do not have the answer, nor do I allow it to consume my day thinking about it, living in fear of the “big bad boogeyman” either.
