Update: Sheriffs Office Makes Arrest in Discovery Bay Shooting

At 9:52 pm Monday, East Contra Costa firefighters responded to a report of a victim suffering from a gun shot wound in the 4200 block of Slifer Drive in the Town of Discovery Bay.

Once the scene was secure by the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff, Engine 59 arrived to locate a 28-year-old male suffering from a gun shout wound to the lower leg. Patient care was provided and requested a medical helicopter.

The patient was transported by REACH to John Muir Trauma Center in Walnut Creek under Trauma Protocol.

According to Chief Hugh Henderson, the incident appeared to be an accidental shooting, but was still under investigation by the Sheriffs Office.

The Sheriffs Office have not yet provided any information on the shooting as of 7:00 am Tuesday confirming whether or not the shooting was accidental.

Update via Sheriffs Office: Shooting in Discovery Bay

On Monday at about 9:37 PM, Deputy Sheriffs were dispatched to a home on the 4200 block of Slifer Drive in Discovery for a report of a possible accidental shooting.

Upon arrival Deputies found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was uncooperative and was later taken to a hospital. His injury did not appear to be life-threatening.

During the initial investigation, it was determined that the shooting occurred after an argument.

Deputies later arrested 41-year-old Paul Nelson who lived at the residence. He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility for assault with a firearm. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
