At 12:15 pm Friday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of a vegetation fire on Kirker Pass Road between the City of Concord and City of Pittsburg.
Multiple callers reported smoke and flames showing with a small spot fire and a short time later a hillside on fire.
Engine 11 arrived on scene reporting 3 separate fires
CONFIRE was working on having law enforcement shut down Kirker Pass Road. The request was for the southbound direction in Pittsburg. A hard closure was at Kirker Pass and Castlewood Drive.
As of 12:29 pm, CONFIRE had requested a second-alarm response.
As of 12:46 pm, 3 separate fires were making aggressive runs up the hill. BC8 reported the fire was estimated at 20-acres.
As of 12:47 pm, fire was estimated at 30-acres with potential to grow to 100 acres. Air support has been requested to the scene for water drops.
1:45 pm Update
CONFIRE reporting Kirker Pass Road grass fire between Concord & Pittsburg currently not contained, has burned to approximately 90 acres. No structures threatened. Kirker Pass Road closed in both directions
2:51 pm Update
According to Contra Costa County Fire, the fire was estimated at 105 acres and it was determined that a malfunctioning vehicle caused the fire. Kirker Pass was anticipated to be closed for the next several hours.
