Update: Antioch Man Dies After Being Ejected in Rollover Crash on Deer Valley Road

by ECT

At 3:02 pm Wednesday, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of a rollover crash on Deer Valley Road just south of Kaiser in the City of Antioch.

Upon arrival, Engine 52 reported that the vehicle had rollover over and the driver was ejected from the vehicle into a field. A medical helicopter was requested along with Engine 53 for patient care.

The incident shut down the roadway in both directions where a SIGAELRT was issued by CHP between the City of Antioch and City of Brentwood. It was also stated that the driver was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the rollover crash.

While crews were working on the driver in the AMR unit, the patient coded and crews cancelled the medical helicopter and opted for a ground transport to Kaiser just down the road.

By 4:46 pm, the roadway was re-opend. There is no update on the status of the driver of the vehicle.

Due to the location of this crash, the jurisdiction is CHP who are investigating the incident.

UPDATE per CHP

SOLO FATALITY in ANTIOCH TODAY

Today, at about 3:15pm, Contra Costa CHP was advised by Antioch Police Department of an overturned solo vehicle collision on northbound Deer Valley Road, north of Empire Mine Road, with the driver ejected from the vehicle. Upon emergency personnel and CHP arrival, and with the help of an independent witness, it was determined that a silver Ford Expedition had overturned and the solo male driver (62yr old man from Antioch) had been ejected. The male driver was transported by Ambulance to a local hospital but unfortunately pronounced deceased upon arrival. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Coroners Office will be handling the release of his identity.

In the initial investigation, it appears that the solo male driver of the Ford was at an undetermined speed and unable to stay on the roadway through a curve and veered off the roadway, which subsequently overturned and fully ejected the male driver (who was not wearing a seatbelt). Upon emergency personnel arrival, the driver was transported by ambulance but ultimately pronounced deceased upon arrival to the hospital.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs are a factor in this collision but is still under investigation. If anyone else witnessed this collision or the events leading up to it, please contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez, (925) 646-4980. Thank you.

For those who say the road is a death trap, it’s not the road I’ve driven that way many times and have never had the road try to kill me or make me lose control of my vehicle.

I have driven on that road a lot and there were no problems. My seat belt is immediately snapped on as soon as I get into my vehicles. Was this guy texting or what?

Sarah Smith Mar 28, 2019 - 5:12 am

Regardless of what happened or how there is an ongoing investigation so your comments aren’t necessary when right now his family is mourning his loss. He was a real person with people who loved him, not just some guy the news made up for keyboard warriors to comment on. Hateful comments talking about how this road never did anything to you and he must be texting are unnecessary and unappreciated when you don’t even know what happened.

First, you were probably absent from school when the First Amendment of Freedom of Speech and Expression was presented. Second, thousands of people travel that road and almost no one ran off it going at high speed and crashing. Sorry, short of a heart attack, it happened to this guy, but he was obviously not paying attention to his driving.

Jason Mar 31, 2019 - 4:59 pm

Obviously you were absent during English class Dawn, learn how to put together a paragraph, bitch.

Out of respect for him and those who are mourning please refrain from commenting hateful things about what was done wrong and how you’ve personally never had an issue on that road. The investigation is being taken care of and at this time his family is mourning a loss. Respect it. He was a person with people who loved him not just some guy on the news.

Simonpure Mar 28, 2019 - 6:18 am

This is not an obituary. Every guy on the news is a person with people who love them. It is very clear he took that turn too fast and not wearing his seat belt. These are FACTS Sarah. Mark and Martin said nothing hateful. Read them again real slow.
May you rest in peace pops.

Simonpure,
WELL SAID !!

Jeff Gert Apr 1, 2019 - 9:52 pm

How do you know he was driving to fast? Were u there? The report doesn’t say that, but somehow u know everything now?

Simonpure Apr 2, 2019 - 2:54 pm

In the initial investigation, it appears that the solo male driver of the Ford was at an undetermined speed and unable to stay on the roadway through a curve and veered off.
I know the curve well. It indeed is a sharp turn. If he was at the speed limit or less he would not have rolled. Witness at scene. It’s a no brainer Jeff.

Jeff Gert Apr 2, 2019 - 2:58 pm

It says the speed is undetermined, but yet somehow you can determine the speed, you must know more then the professionals?

Simonpure Apr 2, 2019 - 5:23 pm

Oh dear Jeff…undetermined speed and unable to stay on the roadway through a curve and veered off.
Tell me you do not have enough common sense to figure this out. I would suggest you go see for yourself.

Vicky Mar 28, 2019 - 12:33 pm

No one has posted anything “hateful.”

Gina Mar 28, 2019 - 3:47 pm

Lots of people — probably the majority — have people who love them! Maybe if they loved him more, they would have INSISTED that he always snap on his SEAT BELT before starting the engine. I’m all having future cars include equipment which will prevent a car from starting UNLESS the seat belt in firmly secured across one’s body.

Jason Apr 1, 2019 - 9:49 pm

Maybe if they loved him more? What kind of stupid ass says that? Ohh the same stupid ass who doesn’t know new cars already have this technology. Get out of that old ass Honda HOE!

There is something commonly known as Freedom of Speech. You have to be thick skinned to handle internet comments, and not take things personally. Comments are at the discretion of the moderator (on ANY site) and if you can’t handle others people’s comments – don’t read them.

I have no idea what caused this. Rest in Peace.

Jason Apr 1, 2019 - 9:55 pm

Stfu you annoying bit%h. Hope your skin is thick fatty!

grace Apr 4, 2019 - 2:07 pm

Way to go, Melanie! I couldn’t have said it better! I never let any negative comments bother me. Hell, I make many myself. I laugh at them and the First Amendment was created to protect UNPOPULAR speech.

Jeff Apr 15, 2019 - 7:53 am

Thx grace for admitting you’re an internet troll, I bet you live under a bridge bitch ?

Sarah Smith Mar 28, 2019 - 4:14 pm

Y’all are welcome to feel how you want, a man lost his life and my heart breaks for his family. Sending prayers their way.

Neil Mar 31, 2019 - 11:55 pm

Lots of people lose their lives . . . one way or another … and that’s life! I recently lost a relative to a very aggressive cancer, and it broke my heart. I lost a cousin, 24 years old, who was killed when a bunch of practitioners of the “religion of peace” flew a hijacked airplane into the WTC! This cousin was just starting his life when it was cut off in the most horrific way.

Always use your seat belt. Always!
