Update: 31-Year-Old Man Succumbs to Injuries in Saturday Shooting

The Antioch Police Department announced Tuesday morning that a 31-year-old man that was shot at the Chevron Gas Station on Delta Fair Blvd on Saturday has died.

Police identified the man as Demarco Childs who was shot over a confrontation of some sort.

“Childs died at an area hospital over the weekend. Antioch Police Investigators will be presenting this case to the Office of the District Attorney today for their review of the facts of the case and to make a determination on if criminal charges are warranted,” said Lieutenant Tom Fuhrmann.

Original Release

On February 13, at 11:47 am, the Antioch Police Dispatch began receiving calls of shots being fired in front of the Chevron in the 3200 block of Delta Fair Blvd at Somersville Road. Officers responded to the scene where they located a 31 year old male, Antioch resident on the ground.

He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Also on scene was a 34 year old male from Cordelia. It appears at this time that the 34 year old male and the 31 year old male knew each other and a confrontation ensued at this location, culminating in the 34 year old shooting the 31 year old.

IMG_9447The 31 year old was transported to an area hospital where he is currently in surgery. After the shooting the 34 year old remained on scene and awaited the arrival of the police.

Antioch Detectives were called in and have taken over the investigation. The 34 year old is cooperating with the investigation at this time and no arrests have been made.

It’s sad when a fellow citizen dies so nearby… It’s even more sad when people only give their condolences to dead police officers. We are all in this together. There is no hierarchy of death…
