pittsburg police

At 6pm today Pittsburg Police Officers responded to an auto vs. pedestrian collision on Jimno Ave. A 2 year-old girl was visiting an address in the 100 block of Jimno Ave with her family. She was outside playing with several other children. She ran into the street after the ball and the driver of a passing vehicle didn’t see her and hit her. There were several parked cars on the street and the driver was driving a sports utility vehicle.

The child was transported to Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.

There is no update on her condition at this time. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle stopped and attempted to provide aid once he realized he had struck a child.  The driver is a Pittsburg Resident, and is cooperating with our investigation.

Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the collision.

The following information was provided by the Pittsburg Police Dept via Press Release from Lt. Raman at 7:59 pm.

This is why I never travel over 25 in residential areas, and even slower when here are too many cars parked on the street. I am constantly looking under the parked cars as I drive, looking for “little feet” and children playing. I can only imagine how bad the driver feels and hope that the child will be okay. My heart goes out to the child’s family.

I hope she pulls through. Her injuries sound severe.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the little girl, her family and the driver that struck her.
