On Saturday, Toree McGee and Rodeo House will perform in downtown Antioch as part of the Summer Concert Series through the Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch.

McGee, who is from Antioch, released her debut single “Amen” last spring which shot up the charts on local Country Station KRTY in San Jose.

McGee describes her music as a blend of “Woodstock rock ‘n’ roll, and sparkly country” is excited to return to her hometown and perform at Waldie Plaza.

Toree-McGee-Cover“It’s going to be a lot of fun because I get to see a bunch of people I grew up with and it’s nice to do one close to home where I grew up. I get to see friends I grew up with and their parents. It’s always fun to be home,” says McGee.

She says since the release of her album, she has been traveling all over the Bay Area performing at least 3-4 shows per week.

“This last year has been nuts, especially the last few months,” says McGee. “A lot is going on with the music stuff since the EP was released last year. A few of the songs have been played on the radio, predominantly in the Bay Area. I was able to perform at some really cool shows. I opened for Clay Walker, A Thousand Horses, Austin Webb and Drake White.”

McGee also had the opportunity to perform for the military in London and play for US Troops just outside of Cambridge, UK. She spent a week in England and already has been asked to come back next year by the military.

toree-mcgee-sonoma-nascarShe and her band also recently played for NASCAR in Sonoma and is working on filling out her schedule for the remainder of the year which may include a stint in Southern California, Oregon and possibly a few dates outside the country.

“We always try to play new places and build a grassroots following because that is where its at. People will be loyal to you if you connect with them because they then become invested in you and the music. We focus a lot of our time to be fan focused and interact with them,” explained McGee. “We are still grinding it out and running everything ourselves because it’s super tough to get on radio stations unless you are charting or a major artist. As independent artists, its tough out there but our fans make everything worth it.”

On Saturday, McGee says they will play songs from her old album, mixed in with new ones and a variety of cover songs that she and her band believes the audience will enjoy. She says this years show will have a little bit of a different sound and has a few surprises planned.

“It feels good to be back in Antioch and doing something positive in the city I grew up in. My family is rooted here. My parents and grandparents all graduated from there and live there,” explained McGee. “My mom helped on 4th of July parade. We try and do positive things and make it a great little town like it was when we were kids. It’s awesome to come back and try and do something great and do something fun that people can do together at a place where I came from.”

The Antioch Saturday Summer Concert Series are located Waldie Plaza located between G & I Streets (by Antioch City Hall off of 2nd Street). Concerts begin at 6:00 pm.
