Tonight: Brentwood City Council Set to Make Councilmember Appointment

Tonight, the Brentwood City Council will be appointing an applicant to serve on the City Council.

The move will come after Steve Barr submitted his letter of resignation dated August 28, 2017 to the City Clerk, identifying September 8th as his last day as Vice Mayor. According to his resignation letter, he and his wife has sold their Brentwood home and have made the decision to relocate to far northern California.

According to the Agenda, for the interview process this evening, there will be a brief staff presentation and public comment period. The applicants will then be called up in alphabetical order, by last name, and  given up to 10 minutes to introduce themselves, describe why they should be selected to fill the vacant seat, and provide the City Council with any additional information that they feel relevant.  The City Council may ask clarifying questions of the applicants after each candidate has had an opportunity to make their presentation.

When it comes to selecting a councilmember, each Council Member will be given sheets of paper containing their respective names at the top, and the names of all of the eligible applicants below in alphabetical order. When asked by the Mayor to do so, they will check next to the name of the applicant they wish to appoint to the vacant city council seat. This voting process will continue repeatedly until one applicant has received a minimum of 3 votes.

In total, the city received 11-applications in which all 11-applicants met the legal requirements to serve. They include: The applicants include:

  • Janalyn Aubert
  • John Fink
  • Balwinder Grewal
  • Douglas Hartsough
  • Peter Jacoway
  • Joseph Krissoff
  • Mark Murray
  • Russell Pitkin
  • Mark Stoiber
  • Jamie Tobin
  • Joseph Trebino

Of the applicants, only John Fink and Mark Stoiber ran in the 2016 election. Fink earned 6,598 votes (19.79%) of the vote while finishing third while Stoiber earned 4,064 votes (12.19%) placing fourth.
