Tim Herbert Named Next Brentwood Police Chief

BRENTWOOD, CA – After an internal recruitment and interviews by the Brentwood Executive Team and City Manager Tim Ogden, the City of Brentwood is pleased to announce the City Manager’s appointment of Captain Tim Herbert to Chief of Police for the City of Brentwood effective the evening of September 28, 2022.

Captain Herbert, a Brentwood resident, with 31 years of law enforcement experience, has worked for the Brentwood Police Department since 2002. He has served as Support Services Captain since 2019, as well as a variety of leadership positions as Lieutenant and Sergeant overseeing budgeting, training, recruiting, internal affairs, and the patrol division since 2010.

He has a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Behavior, and is a member of the California Police Chief Association and completed POST management and development courses.

As Police Chief, Captain Herbert will also serve as a member of the Brentwood Executive Team reporting to the City Manager and will participate in citywide management efforts with them. He will continue to bring integrity and passion to the City and will serve all of the community well.

Captain Herbert said of this promotion: “I am excited at the opportunity to lead the men and women of the Brentwood Police Department and serve the citizens of Brentwood. I’m eager to get started on this exciting journey as the next Police Chief.”

Chief Thomas Hansen will retire September 30, 2022, after 35 years in law enforcement, with 27 of those years serving the City of Brentwood. Chief Hansen has served as the Brentwood Police Department’s Police Chief since 2017.

The City of Brentwood will host the Final Log-off and Swearing-in Ceremony on September 28, 2022. During this ceremony, outgoing Chief Hansen will make his final log-off and new Chief of Police Herbert will be sworn in.

The ceremony will be held at the City of Brentwood Community Center located at 35 Oak Street from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
