Southbound Antioch Bridge Shut Down After Vehicle vs. Big Rig Crash

At 4:03 am Saturday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of a vehicle that had rear ended a big rig on the Antioch Bridge near the toll plaza with the driver trapped.

According to firefighters on scene, they located the driver of the vehicle alert and conscious, however, the vehcile was stuck under the trailer and they had to perform a major extrication and required two rescue vehicles and multiple engines to the scene.

They requested CHP to shut down the southbound direction of the bridge.

By 4:29 am, medical helicopter was requested.

By 5:09 am, BC8 reported the patient had been extricated and was en-route to the medical helicopter.
