Movement Mortgage Loan Officer Dan Peterson nominated the Brentwood, California camp for foster children in a video competition for a $10,000 grant from Movement’s nonprofit foundation

BRENTWOOD, CALIFORNIA — Movement Mortgage and Branch Manager Dan Peterson have presented the Royal Family KIDS Camp of Brentwood with a grant for $10,000 as the inaugural winner of the Movement Mortgage 10K initiative.

The Movement 10K initiative challenges Movement team members to nominate a nonprofit for a $10,000 grant by submitting short videos to the nonprofit Movement Foundation. Peterson nominated Royal Family KIDS – Brentwood this spring, which became the inaugural recipient of the foundation’s grant.

The funds will be used to support camp operations this summer. Royal Family KIDS of Brentwood is part of a network of camps for abused, abandoned and neglected children. In 2015, Royal Family KIDS served over 7,700 children in 209 camps in 40 states and 4 international countries. The Movement 10K grant will go exclusively to the Brentwood camp. It will be matched by an additional $10,000 donation from John Kenney, owner of JDK & Associates Realty.

“This is an amazing gift that will give us the budget to love and care for our campers this year in a really special way,” says Dave Bowers, director of Royal Family KIDS of Brentwood. “I was driving down the road when I heard the news. I had to stop the car because I was so overwhelmed. We’re grateful to God and how he’s using Movement Mortgage to make a difference here in our community.”

Movement Mortgage in Brentwood is led by Dan Peterson, a veteran mortgage professional. He nominated Royal Family KIDS for the inaugural Movement 10K grant after learning about its impact from Brentwood real estate agent John Kenney.

IMG_3945“I was just so impressed by Royal Family KIDS and its mission to serve children who didn’t have a lot of positive things in their lives,” Peterson says. “Our company exists to love and value people. I’m really looking forward to seeing how Royal Family KIDS uses this gift to bring love and value to the lives of these children in Brentwood.”

Movement Mortgage has been recognized as the fastest-growing private mortgage bank in the U.S., powered by its innovative process and culture. Movement believes real estate is a local business driven by individual agents and their local sphere of influence. The company has rapidly expanded nationwide by committing to upfront underwriting, seven-day processing on most of its loans and investing millions of dollars back into communities through its nonprofit Movement Foundation.

Brian Helmick, an East Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Battlian Chief who volunteers time at the camp, says that the Royal Family KIDS camp is an opportunity to serve youths that are sometimes not served due to resources while exposing them to people who can help them find a purpose in life.

“The kids we work with, its not fair to place labels on them, but they have been exposed to being in multiple homes, abusive homes, anything you can think of about being a foster child, it goes across extremes to what they can be,” explained Helmick. “A lot of what these kids have been exposed to are due to the struggles of other peoples lives, so what we try to do is remind them of what they are capable of doing. We try and be encourages and let them know that anything they want to achieve, with the right amount of effort, energy and commitment they can achieve those things. Simply put, we just want to let them know they can do anything, they just need an opportunity to feel safe and see beyond their current situation. Our goal is to help change lives.”
