Rep. DeSaulnier Statement on Passage of Restoring Tax Fairness for States and Localities Act

Rep Mark DeSaulnier

Washington, DC – Last week, Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11) issued the following statement on passage of the Restoring Tax Fairness for States and Localities Act (H.R. 5377) in the House of Representatives.

The bill, which passed the House by a vote of 218-to-206, would restore fairness and equality to residents in high cost-of-living areas who were negatively impacted by the 2017 Republican tax bill. Specifically, the Republican tax bill limited the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction, which resulted in double-taxing an average $13,000 of annual income for Californians.

“In passing their tax bill in 2017, Republicans punished places like the Bay Area that have high costs of living, but contribute greatly to our competitive global economy,” Congressman DeSaulnier said. “This bill begins to correct the damage done to middle-class families and correct the imbalance in our tax code that favors the ultra-wealthy.”

Before these changes made to SALT in the Republican tax bill, homeowners in Contra Costa County had an average SALT deduction of $18,672. More than 43% of tax returns filed in California’s 11th District claimed the SALT deduction, which made it the 38th highest user of the deduction nationwide.

Because californacates you by stealing more in taxes, you want money back from the U.S. Government. Why not just lower the taxes in califoracate. Oh , that would take money from the illegals , the homeless and the graft the state and local governments take .

Great comment W Willson , the other thing the worthless career politician could do is work with the state to sponsor a bill to equalize the fire tax rate for areas under assigned when prop 13 was
established. That would be correcting an error by our state. I’m sure there is a bs excuse why Desaulnier will not touch that. Maybe when he was in local government correcting the unequal tax rates may have been the right thing to do but it wasn’t a good political move so he focused on hating the President of the United States. DeSaulnier needs to stop spending our money to promote hate in Congress. Correct the border, find a solution for the homeless, and stop wasting our money and time playing games with other political parties.

Congressman Mark DeSaulnier jumped the gun on this motion to pass. Minutes after he posted a pass of this legislation their was a motion to reconsider. This motion is made by a legislator on the winning vote side and effectively stops the bill from proceeding to the Senate and upon passage the President. So while it looks good he is fighting for the middle class he has jumped the gun on his success. Also, the bill raises the top tier tax rate while lowering the beginning of the income bracket. This cast a wider net bringing the top middle class earners into owing more taxes. So not so much a win for the entire middle class.

Maybe DeSaulnier can bring up the obstruction of congress that Nancy Pelosi is guilty of by purposely delaying the impeachment. That’s a pretty serious crime along with attempting to influence a presidential election.
