Police Chief Announces Antioch K9 Unit Fully Staffed

by ECT

Antioch Police Chief Allan Cantando announced Thursday morning that the canine unit is fully staffed 6 dogs.

The last time had a fully staffed K9 unit was about 4-years ago and have been working with 2-3 K9 units at a time according to Cantando.

“When you have a dog on every shift, its a workforce multiplier. When you have to search a building, you don’t need a whole team inside, you can send in the dog with a few officers. They will locate a suspect faster than an officer,” says Candanto.

Cantando further highlighted just how important it is for the department to be fully staffed with K9 because it makes the department more effective, they are able to apprehend more criminals with K9’s and adds opportunity for assignments in the police department. In addition, he says the public loves the K9 unit noting that the Antioch Rotary Club recently donated $1,000 for a vest for the newest K9.

“This is just another step in the rebuilding of the Antioch Police Department which would not have happened without the passage of Measure C and the support the community,” said Cantando.

According to a Facebook Message, Candanto says:

Please allow me to introduce your current, fully staffed Antioch Police Department canine unit. From left to right: Officer Ramirez and his partner Enzo, Officer McDonald and his partner Leroy, Officer Bledsoe and his partner Danto, Officer Harger and his partner Donna, Officer White and his partner Copper, and Officer Fachner and his partner Kane.

These phenomenal teams augment our Community Policing Bureau, with one team assigned to each patrol shift. They are trained in searching, article detection, apprehension, and narcotics. We are proud of our canine unit and hope that you are too!

Sincerely,

Chief Allan Cantando

I hope these dogs get a whole lot more than just kibble every night for having to be a part of the human rat-race (an important part as well).
