Update via Pittsburg Police (1:53pm)

Just before noon today, Pittsburg Police Officers responded to a solo vehicle collision on Power Avenue near Case Drive.  The vehicle was occupied by a female adult and her two year old child.  Officers arrived on scene and found that the child had been ejected from the vehicle and was deceased.

The driver, 30 year old Pittsburg resident, was conscious and still seated in the driver seat of the vehicle.  Emergency medical aid was provided to the driver and she was transported to a local hospital.

According to witnesses, the driver was involved in a minor collision minutes earlier and as she fled from that scene she lost control of her vehicle and ultimately collided with a light pole.  The force of this collision caused the child to be ejected from his car seat and severe damage to the passenger side of the vehicle.  The driver is unlicensed and her actions leading up to this collision are currently being investigated.

Collision investigators and detectives are on scene and more information will be provided as it becomes available.  Anyone with information relative to this collision should contact the Pittsburg Police Department 925-427-7369.

Power Avenue between Jorgenson Drive and Case Drive will be closed for several hours and the area should be avoided.
