8:05 pm UPDATE

Just after 5:45 this evening, Pittsburg Police Officers responded to the business located at 95 Bliss Avenue in regards to a vehicle theft where a one-year-old child was inside the car when it was taken. When officers arrived on scene, they were informed by the car’s owner, and father of the child, he had driven to the location and gotten out of his car to talk with another man. When he got out of the car, he left the vehicle running with his one-year-old daughter inside secured in a carseat in the rear seat.
The man was standing outside the vehicle within a few feet talking to another man. A few moments later, a woman walked up to the two men and asked if they had a cigarette. Both men stated they did not, and the woman began to walk away towards the running car. The woman then got into the car and began driving away from the business before either man could stop her.
Officers obtained video surveillance from the business where the incident occurred, and are working to identify the woman who took the vehicle. The woman is described as a white female adult in her 30’s, with medium build, with an unknown tattoo on her face.
Pittsburg officers immediately began searching the area for the car and requested the assistance of area law enforcement agencies. In addition, a statewide Be On the Lookout was requested for the car to all law enforcement agencies, an Amber Alert was issued to the community, and information was posted to the community on social media.
Thanks to the quick work by the Pittsburg community, just after 7:30 p.m., the car was located abandoned near Army Street with the child safe inside and uninjured. The child was reunited with her family. The woman who took the vehicle was not located at the scene.
Officers continue to work to identify the woman who took the vehicle.
