Pittsburg Police Investigating 4th Homicide of 2020

On December 30, 2020, Pittsburg officers began the investigation of a missing person under suspicious circumstances. The missing subject was identified as Malik Pittman, a 19-year-old Pittsburg resident.

During the investigation, officers found Malik went missing in the early evening hours of December 29, 2020. During that event Malik was seated inside a vehicle parked in the 400 block of East Santa Fe Avenue. While he was seated in the vehicle with unknown subject(s), several gunshots were heard coming from inside the vehicle. After the gunshots, this vehicle fled the area with Malik still inside.

The vehicle is described as a newer model grey 4 -door sedan. Based on this information, the Pittsburg Police Department Investigations Division was notified and detectives took over the investigation and continued interviewing and contacting witnesses to this incident, checking with area hospitals and reviewing video surveillance of the area.

On the morning of December 31, 2020, the Pittsburg Police Department was notified by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office they had located Malik’s deceased body, within the city of Salinas, CA. Additional information revealed Malik suffered from several gunshot wounds to the torso. This continues to be a very active investigation and updates will be provided when they are available. Malik’s association with the subject(s) in the vehicle at the time of the shooting is unknown.
