Pittsburg: Jelani Killings Announces City Council Run

by ECT

On Monday, just a day before the California Primary Election, Pittsburg resident Jelani Killings announced he intends to run for Pittsburg City Council this fall.

Killings, 30, works for the City of Oakland as an ethics analyst.

Here is a copy of his press release:

Native son, Jelani Killings is gearing up to make a run for Pittsburg City Council. Killings grew up in Pittsburg and, after studying business administration at Clark University in Atlanta, came back to his hometown. No married and raising a family, killings wants to make a difference in the community he knows and loves.

“I’ve witnessed and experienced the ups and downs of this community,” said Killings. “Pittsburg can be so much more than it is. That’s why I’ve decided to step up and run for office.”

Killings firmly believes that “much of what occurs—whether good and bad—is a reflection of the City’s leadership.”

Killings believes he has the credentials and experience to serve on the City Council and be a leader in Pittsburg. After college, Killings went on to study public management and policy analysis at California State University, East Bay where he received his master’s degree. He works for the City of Oakland as an ethics analyst, serves on the executive committee as vice-chair of the Contra Costa County Economic Opportunity Council and is actively involved in a variety of youth and family programs such as the Pittsburg Youth Summit and annual Martin Luther King Jr Day community celebrations, to name a few.

Killing’s platform calls for an investment of Pittsburg youth by strengthening the relationship with the Pittsburg Unified School District, bringing back the Pittsburg Youth Commission and expanding services, programs and opportunities. He wants to empower Pittsburg residents to help tackle problems facing the city, stepping up efforts for citizen engagement and developing community collaborations. Killings proposes to ignite the Pittsburg local economy by reducing crime and blight, and taking measures for sustainable growth through regional planning and creative partnerships.

Killings brings a fresh perspective to Pittsburg with the passion and tenacity to make positive and meaningful change. For more information about Jelani Killings and how you can get involved in his campaign, visit www.jelanikillings.com.
