Photos: Saturday Balfour Crash Leaves 1-Female Seriously Injured

by ECT

At 8:47 am on Saturday May 18, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District crews rushed to a three-car accident on Balfour Road which left one victim seriously injured and transported via helicopter.

The incident occurred about a half mile east of Hannah Nicole Vineyards and Winery which shut down the road in both directions as crews worked.  Crews arrived on scene to see what appeared to be a head-on crash that left one female trapped.

Crews were forced to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the woman and remove a car door. She was flown to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

Upon patient transfer, the incident was turned over to the California Highway Patrol who did a fantastic job with crowd control and controlling the traffic to ensure everyone’s safety.  The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

As you can see from the photographs, there was significant damage to the vehicles.

Brentwood needs to invest in widening that road. This is a death trap!

This accident is another example of developments turning narrow country roads into heavily traveled speedways. I say speedways because every time I drive out there, people pass me and blow the doors off my truck. And if a tractor is on the road in front of us………… Balfour has become a major road, it needs to be improved. But I think that the problem is County not Brentwood. I see County public works working on the road and shoulders all the time, not Brentwood.

Barbara is right. Brentwood City Limit on Eastern Balfour is Sellers Avenue. That area is County jurisdiction.

Thank you Barbara! Your road is not the only one experiencing this horrible issue it is good to know there are others out there that feel the same as we do. Our road has turned into the road from hell too. And, yes, it is the Counties problem. They are wasting money constantly repairing the roads like this it only makes them worse.
