PG&E to Upgrade Gas Transmission Line in Brentwood

Press Release

by ECT

BRENTWOOD, Calif.— Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) will be working in Contra Costa County’s unincorporated Brentwood to replace a gas transmission pipeline. The project will benefit thousands of customers with a safer and more resilient natural gas system.

PG&E crews are upgrading the gas transmission line, ranging from three to eight inches wide. The system will be reconfigured with approximately eight feet of replacement pipe, while more than 2,600 feet of eight-inch gas transmission line will be deactivated. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-June and continue through early August, weather permitting.

The project will take place on the following streets, and may cause traffic delays, detours or closures: Bixler Road, Balfour Road, Bryon Highway, Timber Road, Poe Drive, Denali Drive, and Fallman Boulevard (see map below).

Traffic control will be on-site, and customers in the affected area will receive notification in advance of the work. PG&E will utilize compressed natural gas (CNG) tanks to ensure gas service is not interrupted during the work.

On occasion, customers may notice the smell of natural gas. This is not harmful, and natural gas quickly dissipates into the atmosphere. However, safety is always our top priority, and we encourage anyone who has concerns about natural gas odors in or around their home or business to call us at 1-800-743-5000, so we can safely determine the specific cause.

This gas work is part of PG&E’s everyday commitment to provide safe, reliable and affordable natural gas service to its customers.
