Meals on Wheels Diablo Region joins other community leaders and community-minded organizations as 2018 Antioch Chamber of Commerce Award Winners.

Meals on Wheels Diablo Region (MOWDR), a full-service nonprofit organization dedicated to improving all aspects of senior lives in Contra Costa County, announced that the agency is the winner of the 2018 ‘Nonprofit of the Year Award’ by the Antioch Chamber of Commerce. The prestigious awards acknowledge leading citizens and organizations that make an impact in the community of the greater Antioch area.

MOWDR was nominated by Antioch Councilwoman, MOWDR Volunteer, Lori Ogorchock.

“This recognition from the community of Antioch represents our goal to focus on areas of great and growing need, and we are honored to be in the company of other individuals and organizations who are doing such great work in support of the city and residents of Antioch,” said Susannah Meyer, MOWDR Community Engagement Director.

The award acknowledges MOWDR’s excellence in serving the elderly population and empowering older adults to live independently and with dignity in their homes for as long as possible. Services available to Antioch seniors and their families include: Meals on Wheels, Fall Prevention, Health and Wellness, Care Management, and Friendly Visitors.

“When I deliver meals, seniors answer the door with joyful smiles and appreciation. Their thank-yous are heartfelt and full of love, and that warms my heart. I have seen the impact this nonprofit has in our community. If you love seniors or just have an inkling to give back in our community, consider supporting MOWDR, I promise you will be repaid tenfold,” said Councilwoman Ogorchock.

Antioch’s MOWDR clients represent some of the most underserved and highest need seniors in the county. In recent years, MOWDR has ramped up support in East and Far East County – starting pilot programs and partnering with other nonprofits and medical groups to expand and share available resources. MOWDR’s increased outreach in Antioch and surrounding cities is a priority and the organization is committed to meeting the growing need through continued advancement.

With a regular influx of new clients, MOWDR is constantly looking for more volunteers to deliver on their mission.
