March 10-16: Antioch Police Briefs

According to Antioch City Manager Steve Duran, the Antioch Police Department had 1,205 calls for service between March 10-16.

Of those calls, 62 arrests were made. 24 arrests were felony and 38 were misdemeanor. They also made 5-DUI arrest.

POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATES

  • On 3/17/16 at 2:24 am, 22 year old Macy Key was contacted at the listed intersection. He was found to have a warrant for his arrest and was taken into custody without incident. During a search of his person, he was found to be in possession of narcotics. He was subsequently released on a citation for both the warrant and narcotics.

 

  • On 3/16/16 at 11:43 pm, officers conducted a vehicle stop in the Bonfare lot and contacted a 30 year male and his passenger 30 year old Gary Barrett. During the stop, a search was done and Barrett was found to be in possession 10 grams of rock cocaine packaged for sales. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into county jail.

 

  • On 3/16/16 at 7:55 pm, a citizen drove by and reported seeing smoke inside the Lumpy’s Diner. Contra Costa Fire arrived and found the inside of the building filled with smoke. Contra Costa Fire forced entry by smashing a window. A small grease fire was extinguished in the kitchen. Only damage was from the heavy smoke and smashed door glass. We responded and assisted in locating a representative to respond and secure the business.

 

  • On 3/16/16 at 6:33 pm, an officer was driving in the 1300 block of W 9th St and located a parked vehicle which was sub-plated. After running the vehicle identification number he discovered it was in fact stolen out of Concord. While watching the vehicle, 34 year old Frankie Garcia walked out of 1320 W. 9th Street. She appeared to be looking to see if the officer had left. Garcia was contacted and while talking to the officer, he observed a plastic bag of methamphetamine poking out of her pocket in plain view. When asked what the item was she quickly shoved it back into her pocket. She was arrested and also found to be in possession of shaved keys which started the stolen vehicle. She was arrested for the listed charges and booked into county jail.

 

  • On 3/16/16 at 5:30 pm, officers conducted a traffic stop for vehicle code violations. They contacted the driver, 19 year old Jamari Burks who continually kept digging around the vehicle. They had him step out and asked if he had any weapons. At that point, he admitted that he had a loaded handgun in his pocket. Officer’s recovered a Smith and Wesson P22 in his pants pocket. He was arrested for the weapons charges and cite released. Burks claimed he found the gun a few days earlier.

 

  • On 3/16/16 at 3:46 am, a citizen called to report a vehicle stopped in the intersection Wilbur Ave. and Wilbur Ln. with a male driver slumped over the steering wheel and unresponsive. Officers found 53 year old Gilbert Valenzuela in the driver’s seat of his vehicle parked in the listed intersection and intoxicated. Valenzuela registered a .188 on the preliminary alcohol screening device. Valenzuela was arrested for DUI without incident and sent to county jail.

 

  • On 3/15/16 at 3:03 pm, officers responded to the report of several shots fired near Lawton St and D St. Upon arrival, two bullets were found to have struck the garage of 302 Lawton and a truck parked out front. No one was injured and four spent 9mm casings and 4 live rounds were in the street nearby. An unknown male in dark clothing was seen running from the area after the shooting. It’s not known if this was the shooter. An area check was made with negative results.

 

  • On 3/14/16 at 7:50 pm, 36 year old Tranon Stepter was inside Fallas Discount Store on Somersville Rd when she concealed shoes, socks and perfume in her purse. Loss prevention employees observed Stepter conceal the items and when she exited the store they made contact with her and attempted to detain her for the theft. Stepter armed herself with pepper spray and threatened to spray the employees. In fear of being sprayed, the employees separated themselves from Stepter and watched as she got into the passenger seat of a vehicle in the parking lot. The employees provided APD dispatch with the license plate, vehicle description and direction of travel. A short time later Contra Costa Sheriff’s dispatch notified APD that sheriff’s deputies had the vehicle stopped in Bay Point with Stepter detained. Stepter was identified as the responsible during an infield show up with the Fallas employees and stolen property was recovered. Stepter was booked at county jail for robbery.

 

  • On 3/14/16 at 12:08 pm, JC Penney’s loss prevention saw 58 year old Tony Cotton enter the store and start loading clothing into a backpack he took from the shelf. They attempted to detain him after he left the store without paying but he refused to comply and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, Cotton produced a box cutter and began slashing at the employees. Both employees were cut, but managed to detain Cotton in handcuffs and get the box cutter away from him. Cotton was escorted back to the office. One employee received stitches for his injury and the other did not require medical attention. Cotton was uninjured and was later booked into county jail for robbery and felony assault.

 

  • On 3/13/16 at 11:58 pm, 28 year old Eveline Stone was stopped in the area of Lone Tree Way and Slatten Ranch Rd for vehicle code violations and found to be on probation. A search of Stone revealed un-prescribed Xanax bars in her possession. Stone was released with a citation for several vehicle code violations and possession of the Xanax.

 

  • On 3/13/16 at 10:22 pm, a 33 year old male was intoxicated and knocking on doors in the area of the 1300 block of E 13th St asking for narcotics. He was located some distance away and found to be too intoxicated to care for himself. The male was arrested, without incident, for public intoxication and sent to county jail.

 

  • On 3/12/16 at 9:50 pm, while dealing with another call in the area, officers heard several shots coming from Manzanita Way. Officers arrived within seconds and contacted two subjects at gunpoint in front of a residence in the 2100 block. Both denied knowing anything had occurred, however, several .45 cal. shell casings were located. We conducted a security sweep of the house and contacted several people inside who only heard the shots but did not see anything. There were no injuries and everyone was extremely uncooperative with our investigation. A bullet struck the front door of a residence at 1401 Sycamore #1. Area hospitals were notified, no victims have been identified.

 

  • On 3/12/16 at 8:22 am, an officer made a suspicious vehicle stop at G St and W 2nd St and during a search of 52 year old Kenneth Mazzoula’s vehicle he located 1.7 grams of methamphetamine concealed in the rear seat center console. Kenneth’s was released on a citation after being identified.

 

  • On 3/12/16 at 5:58 am, an anonymous area resident called in about two subjects that appeared to be removing parts from two cars near Marchetti Park at the end of Kendree St. Officers arrived on scene and contacted 33 year old Brandy Parker and 40 year old Jose Salcedo. A check of the vehicles they were working on was done and one was found to be stolen out of Pittsburg. Both Parker and Salcedo were taken into custody without incident. Further investigation revealed Parker had stolen the car earlier in the night and came to meet Salcedo to get a stereo installed. Parker was booked into county jail and Salcedo was released pending further investigation.

 

  • On 3/12/16 at 12:47 am, officers responded to a reported armed robbery at 7-11 located at 2301 Buchanan Rd. Two adult males armed with handguns came into the store and then fled south on Gentrytown Dr with an unknown amount of cash. Officers had just cleared the lot when this occurred. There was a fast response, but the suspects were not located.

 

  • On 3/11/16 at 9:50 pm, officers responded to the report of two suspects fleeing from Little Caesars at 4819 Lone Tree Way after holding the employees at gunpoint and emptying the cash register. Upon arrival, it was determined to be the same suspects from an earlier theft from Macy’s (16-2679) and another armed robbery at the Subway located in the Street’s of Brentwood (BPD 16- 1135) that had just occurred. Both suspects were armed with handguns in this incident and ran to a waiting silver 4-door vehicle. Good video was obtained from all three incidents. No one was injured in any of the incidents. Officers were posted at several businesses and shopping centers, but no other incidents occurred. Neighboring agencies were advised and provided with photos. Brentwood PD had their criminalist respond to their PD. She attempted to identify the located prints from their incident and the Little Caesars incident with negative results. A County Wide bulletin was sent out.

 

  • On 3/11/16 at 1:33 am, an officer was parked in the Rite Aid lot on Lone Tree Way when he saw a vehicle drive passed him at a high rate of speed. As he pulled out onto Lone Tree Way, he saw the vehicle turn off and lost sight of it. The officer conducted an area check and found it parked, unoccupied, on Thumb Mountain Ct. He then did an area check and located 37 year old Kevin Gastinell stumbling as he tried to walk quickly away from the area. Gastinell was contacted and found to be heavily intoxicated and on probation out of San Francisco for multiple prior DUI’s. Gastinell denied driving or having anything to do with the abandoned vehicle. He became uncooperative during a probation search when the abandoned vehicle’s keys were found in his pocket. He was taken into custody and was booked into county jail.

 

  • On 3/10/16 at 8:37 pm, officers responded to a report of an abandoned motor home parked on the corner W 20th St and C St. The motor home turned out to not be abandoned and officers contacted 47 year old Derek Jones inside who had a warrant for his arrest and was sent to county jail.

 

  • On 3/10/16 at 5:24 pm, officers were dispatched to an alarm in the 4600 block of Shetland Way. Upon arrival, the officers observed a silver Audi parked to the rear of the address. Officers observed 21 year old Brandon Burks and 22 year old Ewell Levy loading purses into the trunk of the vehicle. As officers approached the vehicle, Burks fled on foot. Officers were able to detain Levy without incident. Officers went to 4655 Shetland Way and discovered the residence had been burglarized. The victims arrived home and identified the property from inside the Audi as theirs that had been taken from the home. Officers were able to locate indicia inside the Audi belonging to Burks and were able to identify him as the person who fled on foot. An extensive area check with two police K-9’s was done, which met with negative results. Levy was booked at APD and later sent to county jail.

 

  • On 3/10/16 at 9:09 am, officers assisted Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, County Probation and San Francisco PD Inspectors with a search at 5000 Catanzaro Way 19 year old Antoine Waller was detained. Waller is a suspect in multiple armed robberies in San Francisco. A Glock 9mm pistol was located with ammunition and magazines. Waller was arrested and transported to the county jail.

 

  • On 3/10/16 at 8:00 am, the new owner of Quik Stop at 1101 Sycamore Dr. called to report an adult male actively selling drugs in the lot. The owner gave a good description and officers responded and flooded the area. With nowhere to go, several subjects were detained and 18 year old Lamar Crawford matched the description. He was found to have a probation violation warrant for his arrest, and he had marijuana, cash and a scale on his person. Crawford admitted to selling marijuana for money and was arrested and transported to the county jail.

 

  • On 3/10/16 at 6:57 am, a 49 year old male was on a bicycle in the roadway and struck by a vehicle at the intersection of E. 13th St and Cavallo Rd. It appeared the bicyclist was intoxicated and primarily at fault for the collision. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was cooperative. The bicyclist was airlifted to the hospital with moderate to serious injuries, but later stabilized. An APD traffic officer responded to the scene and took primary on the investigation.
