Man Killed by 15-Year-Old Driver out of Contra Costa County During Police Chase in Stockton

The Stockton Police Department reported Sunday that a 15-year-old teen wanted for a felony in Contra Costa County killed a 37-year-old man while trying to evade police in the City of Stockton.

SPD News: Traffic Fatality Investigation Update

Today, around 10:20 a.m., deputies with the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office were attempting to catch up with a suspect vehicle that was wanted for a felony from Contra Costa County. The driver of the suspect vehicle was driving erratically and at a high rate of speed east on Charter Way.

A Stockton Police officer saw this and went to assist.

Moments later, the suspect vehicle collided with an uninvolved motorist at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and Lincoln St. The suspect was taken into custody. Medics were called to the scene and unfortunately pronounced the driver of the uninvolved vehicle, a 37-year-old man, deceased.

The suspect, determined to be a 15-year-old juvenile, was taken to the hospital and then booked into San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall for vehicular manslaughter.

This is now an active multi-agency critical incident investigation which includes the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office, the Stockton Police Department, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner, and the California Highway Patrol.

And so the police killed an innocent man by yet another useless, high-speed chase in a populated area. All this does is to encourage or even FORCE a desperate, wanted fugitive to drive recklessly. Do they think a dangerous criminal like this is going to stop before he hits something, or, just as likely, SOMEONE, as he did here? Macho police culture causing an unnecessary death once again.
