Just after 5:00 pm Saturday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a major injury crash after a vehicle struck a tree.

The crash occurred in the 300 block of Bougainville Drive at Walnut in the City of Brentwood.  Brentwood Police arrived on scene of the crash. Shortly after a medical helicopter was requested by units on scene.

According to East Contra Costa Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Craig Auzenne, he said a solo vehicle struck a tree. A 31-year-old male solo occupant of the vehicle sustained moderate to injuries along with facial injuries. Although the male needed help out of the vehicle, no rescue was required.

Auzenne stated the male did not recall the crash incident and when Brentwood Police arrived on scene, the male was unconscious—he later “came around” as other units arrived on scene, including AMR.

The driver was airlifted to John Muir Trauma Center in Walnut Creek. His condition Saturday night was not provided.

The incident shut down the roadway for more than 2-hours.  The cause of the crash is under investigation by Brentwood Police.
