Loma Vista Teacher Cleared of Abuse to Return to Classroom

We have just received word from Brentwood Union School District Interim Superintendent Doug Adams office that the teacher accused of child abuse of a special needs child was cleared and will be returning to the class room immediately.

In a letter sent out today, Dr. Adams stated the teacher has been cleared of any wrong doings. While Kristie Schrick is free to return to the classroom, Principal Lauri James will remain on leave as the investigation continues.

Here is a copy of the letter.

I have made a decision to return the teacher to the classroom immediately.  This decision is based on the investigation conducted by the Brentwood Police Department.  This investigation has cleared the teacher of any wrong doing.  The district will continue its investigation into established procedures and protocols for working with students, including the issue of mandated reporting.

While this portion of the investigation continues, I am electing to have the Principal remain on paid leave.  Again, placing an employee on paid leave is not an indication of wrong doing.

The investigation will be conducted beginning this Friday by an outside investigator.  We hope to have this concluded by early next week.

J. Douglas Adams

Interim Superintendent

Very Happy to hear that the BUSD has acted swiftly to address the initial incident and then just as quickly to return the teacher to her classroom and her students.

So glad to hear there was no abuse! And that teacher is going back to class.

I am happy to hear this. I wish that people would keep their comments to themselves while the investigation was going on. In other comments and articles this teacher was persecuted from the get go.

LV Parent – Most of the comments, I believe, were directed at the Principal – Lauri James. I went back, I think only one person commented on the teacher.

And as for the reporting issue – I think the majority of the concern stems back to the non reporting issue to the District office (which I believe is their SOP) and contacting the authorities. I would like to point out that Doug Adams did say in his May 20th letter to Loma Vista Parents that, “the Principal did not inform anyone in the District Administration or law enforcement about the incident.”

I just think that with recent past history – it would of been wise to have a third party do the investigation, rather than Ms. James conducting her own. I also think that since James is coming off a admin leave just under two months ago from the Dina Holder case that it would of been a wise move not do an internal investigation again, but to involve others (like the district). Just my opinion.

I did comment on the article about Lauri that she should have gone to the DO. I don’t disagree with that. I did see comments stating abuse by the teacher before knowing the facts. Unfortunately, I think the social media can be good at times but also detrimental other times.

Hilarious that you think you’ve seen every conversation about this and that every single one only talked once about the teacher. That poor girl wont even be able to breathe wrong while she does her job. Laurie James didn’t report it because nothing happened!!!!

I was referencing the comments on this site. Again, back to doing your job coming out of a serious lawsuit against the district, I would imagine that you would handle current cases with utmost care and open dialogue with the district. The fact that Doug Adams had no idea this incident came up is a problem in my opinion. Why would you even risk the district and the school to any whiff or hint of “another” incident, unfounded or not.

In the professional world, outside of education, this would of been an immediate termination and you are fooling yourself if you think any differently.

Thank you for posting the update. Brentwood’s parents need to know that the BUSD school district is doing everything possible to protect and educate their children.
