Letter: Retired Antioch Cop Says “Yes” on Measure W

by ECT

The following letter was submitted by Tom Fuhrmann,  Antioch resident & retired from the Antioch Police Department who is advocating for the support of Measure W.

Dear Editor:

I keep reading the city needs to learn to live within its means or they should make cuts to stay within budget. These are not sustainable ideas. A city cannot continually function that way nor should it.

Costs of everything continue to rise. Materials, utilities, wages and benefits, equipment. If a city were to keep a stagnant income then everything remains at status quo and eventually, due to inflation alone, the city will begin to slide.

“Bring more business” you say. That doesn’t happen when blight and crime issues are too high. Fix those things and make that the new normal and eventually more business will follow.

I don’t want status quo. I want better. I want more officers. I want more code enforcement. I want a cleaner and safer city for my grand kids. These things come with a cost. This is not money being wasted on more entitlement programs. This is money well spent on quality of life issues and we will all benefit from measure W. One penny, sign me up.

Vote “yes” on Measure W.

“Wasted on more entitlement programs”… funny people always act like the poor or people on government assistance are entitled moochers. But when you see how much money we’ve wasted on countless endless wars in comparison to social services… it’s a disgrace. F this guy for acting high and mighty and probably just wanting to fill more jails with poor people. He’s just pushing the status quo even more, what a hypocrite. More punishment, more jails, less rehabilitation, less therapeutic interventions? It shouldn’t take all these taxes to provide what’s already expected of our government. Nah I’m good, No on W.
