Highway 4 Reopens After Vehicle Crash Shuts Down Westbound Direction in Antioch

At 10:34 pm Monday, Highway 4 at Hillcrest was shut down after an 8-vehicle crash involved a big rig blocking all four lanes of traffic.

By 10:45 pm, a SIG ALERT was issued and CHP stated there were large amounts of fuel in the roadway.  The freeway reopened around 2:00 am.

At least four people were injured and transported to local hospitals. At least 4-vehicles sustained major damage.

Highway 4 has since been re-opened.

There was traffic at the hilcrest exit . Like a dead stop. And then I saw the big rig flying down the road he braked but it was to late he smashed those cars like when u crumple tin foil. There was a brief fire as he hit the cars then lots of smoke . Police and fire arrived within 10 mins . Super fast response time .

I see this happen around Loveridge too because of backed-up traffic on to the freeway. Total hazard. Someone should fix the lights so they cycle more often and traffic doesn’t back up into the slow lane on 4, DUH City of Antioch but hey, you let them get away with lame e-BART! Yeah, moving 2,400 people an hour up to BART during commute time ought to do it; NO!!!! So under-planned, two car trains. Antioch and Safe Transportation on roads or rail transit, LOL!

There have been way too many crashes on SR-4 both westbound and eastbound. I think it’s due to excessive speed. This must stop! People are being maimed and killed by these hotheads! Was this trucker drunk? The speed limit should be lowered. Those responsible for crashes due to speeding should be forced to travel in covered wagons along country roads. No more cars for them!
