Update: CHP investigating Fatal Crash on Highway 4 Near Victoria Island Farms

At 5:47 am Wednesday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of an overturned vehicle crash which reportedly ended up in the water.

The incident was originally reported in Discovery Bay, however, upon further investigation, Engine 59 arrived on scene 2-miles east of Old River Bridge and confirmed the vehicle was partially submerged on its roof near Victoria Island Farms in San Joaquin County.

Stockton fire was also dispatched with a scuba rescue team. A medical helicopter was requested and Contra Costa Fire was providing a rescue boat.

10:32 am Update:

According to CHP, a witness told them the driver was passing vehicles and swerved off the road into the canal to avoid oncoming traffic. The end result was a fatality and the vehicle was registered out of Napa. The crash occurred 3-miles east of Old River Bridge.

No other information was released.
