One of the best experiences I’ve had in the past year was participating in the Friends of Oakley Christmas Basket Program and I would encourage anyone and everyone to get involved this holiday season.
It truly was a day that put everything going on in our lives on the back burner to help out those who need a little extra help with some food and toys for their children. I cannot put into words how magnificent of a feeling I had seeing the community come together for such a wonderful cause—especially seeing the young children hand out the toys and turkey’s. Let’s work hard this year to ensure another successful giveaway.
The program will begin registering families tomorrow and will continue on Thursday and Saturday. Last year, spots went by quickly so I’d encourage folks on one of the first two days.
Family Registration
The Friends of Oakley’s Christmas Basket program will be registering families on the following dates:
- Wednesday, Nov. 14 3:00 – 7:00pm
- Thursday, Nov. 15 3:00 – 7:00pm
- Saturday, Nov. 17 9:00 – 1:00pm
Help register 300 families
- Spanish speakers NEEDED
- Work 2-4 hour shift
At the City of Oakley White House Community Annex – 204 Second Street in Oakley
Families must bring either a power or water bill with the family name as proof of Oakley residence to register as well as a name and address matching State of California driver’s license or identification card. Friends of Oakley will consider special circumstances. One family meal will be provided per residence. The Oakley Christmas Basket distribution will take place on the afternoon of Sunday December 16th.
